Headlights's are HIDs. Halos are definitely not HID. Probably CCFL.

Quite the opposite, the actual headlights are HID and the halos aren't.

There is a vid as well as some pics of a red RS pulling into a garage where you can see the halo's are on when outside and inside in the dark. |

I gather the non RS cars signal lights (which will be the DRL's) will operate exactly the same way as our 4th gen cars DRL's work. The light intensity from the signal light diminishes as soon as the headlights are turned on. I have yet to see a 5th gen Camaro with the proper DRL set-up so don't go by any pictures/videos that are out there right now. We still do not have any pre-production cars.

On BMW's they are always on, or at least they are on durring the day. I haven't done enough night driving to notice if BMW's have them on at night as well.

i have 3 settings: Off running lights - just halos and fogs (or fogs off) lowbeams (which includes running lights, so my halos are automatically on)

I believe the new one the halos are the DRL and the stay on when the headlight are on to, so basically they are on when the car is on.

No. The halos do not emit a strong enough light for them to be DRL's. Scott has stated that the DRL's on RS cars (those equiped with halos), are the fog lights.

I never considered that. But, I bet they would be bright enough. If you can see them when the HIDs are on, I think they would be bright enough for DRLs. Even if they aren't legally bright enough, I'm still gonna try to make the them into DRLs. Even if it's only for the looks since that's all they are good for anyway.

Or to an ignition wire so they will come on when ever the ignition is on.

I dont know if you guys seen the blacked out Camaro at the recent SEMA show but the halo lights it had were RED! That would be a great aftermarket application to ad some uniqueness to your Camaro. I hope some one comes out with that option.
