Op, who tuned it? You only had intake and tune and motor managed to blow, that sucks!

The high flow cats melted and came apart and created back pressure in the two rear cylinders. Broke the ring lands. FTK tuned it. AFR’s, duty cycles, etc. were all in the safe range. Cats and f.i. don’t mix. Going with a new forged motor, complete blower cam kit, Melling pump, ARP bolts, hd timing chain, etc.

The previous owner did something to it. It looks like something exploded in there, it takes a lot of force to do that to a piston.

In my experiences the landings are the first things that break in an engine without forged internals. You should be good with forged piston and a good cylinder hone with that low boost.

Your right. Hypereutectic pistons are brittle for f.i. chamber pressures. Going with Wiesco forged pistons, Scat forged rods and crank. The builder says the motor will be good for 15psi. I will probably bump up close to 10.

Going with a stroker?
Just asking since your talking about buying a forged crank.

I was wondering about that. How much more money to do a stroker? And what other engine mods would have to be taken into consideration?

Bo, my goal is 600rwhp. Mustang dyno. I don’t drag race and I can’t get on a road course, both, because I’m a convertible without a roll bar and have a young son that I don’t want to impede on the back seat. I autox a couple times a year, but, my main engagements are with my buddies out here in the canyons. 20-120mph. Run with Huracans, 458’s, Turbo 911’s and tons of 911 Carreras and BMW’s, Z06’s. No American cars except for a couple of Corvettes. I have the cheapest and heaviest car in the group. Lol

If your going to have to replace the crank just go ahead and do the stroker.

I’ll definitely inquire with the builder on Tuesday. Thanks.

If you are going to forged the bottom end why keep it at 10psi. Boost gets addicting, 15psi should be good and reliable with the forged modifications. Make sure when the cylinders are honed with the ball type, and not the bar type.

Is having too much rwhp a problem in a canyon carving car where most speeds are 20-120mph? With 530rwhp before, the car had a nice power balance coming out of 30mph turns. Minimal spin. I have a good suspension setup with good tires. MPSS’s. I was slightly pulling 991 Carrera S’s. No chance with the Huracan, Turbo S’s or 458/488’s. From a roll with PSS’s what type of rwhp would it take to stay even with one of those super cars? From a 30-40 mph roll of course.
