K&N Typhoon Installed

After waiting what feels like forever for some intake system to wow me I finally just decided to get the K&N Typhoon for now with a possible upgrade down the road.

I know the Injen is the CAI of choice, but like I've said before, I wouldn't feel comfortable with the possibility of water, no matter how slim it is according to you guys.

Reviews and thoughts:

The installation was a breeze once I threw out the instructions from K&N and installed things in the order that was logical. The way they wanted you to assemble it..if you can do it that way you're a better man than me. It's all the way they wanted me to do it, just done in a different order.

Performance: Feels slightly more responsive. Have not/will not dyno it so I'll never know for sure but then again I didn't expect much from a CAI really.

Sound: The sound at startup is a bit louder. Idle seems the same as before. Sound is a million times better at high RPM/WOT. This is mated with a catback from MBRP, and really sounds amazing now throughout the RPM range.

All in all, I'm happy with the purchase. Got a great price from JDP Motorsports and the sound/looks of it were worth it to me.

Here are a few pics:

..yep, that's what I got ordered. JDM has good prices too, but I already ordered elsewhere..

..did you have to disconnect the battery? and/or any codes thrown?

Instructions say to d/c the battery so I did. It takes two seconds to do (or five seconds if you have the cargo cover) and the only thing you have to do is re-index the windows which consists of holding the buttons for a few seconds. You don't lose any radio settings or anything like that.

No CEL at all. Only been about 50 miles or so but you I don't think you should see any codes on a CAI unless you really put it in wrong.

Where is the inlet on the box? Does it use the stock snorkel?

Not really a box... looks like it just has an open bottom:

Scrming - I don't think that pic matches the OP picture at all. K&N must have had the wrong picture up.

Think it's just the angle of the picture... the other K&N intake has the same heat shield...

You're right it is an open bottom. Seems like it should get pretty good air from the bottom, but like I said I'm not 100% sold on the design yet. It's going to be a wait and see sort of thing for me. I will try to remember to snap a pic showing directly from the top down so you can see the opening tomorrow.

One interesting thing is that in the box there's a paper from KN saying that if you dyno the car and you don't see a HP gain you get your money back. I don't know if that is universal across all intakes but I thought that was pretty cool that they stand behind their product like that.

wonder if the #5/#20 fuse pull is just as effective..just resetting the CPU to the new A/F mixture, correct? Does your butt dyno tell you anything?
