Mandatory $1500 optional OnStar subscription with new GMs
Looks like GM is going to force $1500 OnStar subscriptions with new vehicle purchases. Suppose I was getting tired of GM's BS anyway and its time to move on or just buy used. Car & Driver article below explains it.

I've commented on this on other threads but I'll just go ahead and say it here too, it really sucks.

Saw the $1500 tacked on to a 2500HD I was checking out last week. The additional $3000 ADM the dealer wanted made for a definite no sale. The longer I hold off the better, lots of different vehicle options in the next few years.

They are not quite getting it if the article is correct. The feature still needs to be a customer choice. GM should be looking for ways to lower prices on their vehicles. It could make customers choose other rivals like Toyota, Lexus, Acura and Nissan.

I would think forcing an option on a customer would have the net effect of more lost sales and a loss of brand loyalty. I have been a GM fan and owner for 45 years but it seems to lately they have been out of touch with the consumer and have nearly no support for any non current model. The car shortage won't last forever and then the manufacturers will have to earn your business-not sure if GM will survive it. I hope we quit bailing out car companies that struggle because of poor choices.

I thought I read on GMC and Buick only. Sucks if it’s mandatory on Chevy too.

It's only a matter of time before all brands/makes/models require this. They're trying to move you to a subscription model for your vehicle versus a one time purchase. Onstar is just a small piece of it.

What I read is it is also only 3 years. So $500 a year then **** you.

Chevy has the My Chevy app and it's service. I read somewhere that GM is doing some testing with that. I wouldn't be surprised if instead of a mandatory $1,500 Onstar sub, Chevy gets a mandatory $1,500 My Chevy sub. But like I said in another thread where this was mentioned, GM is getting a lot of back lash and negative publicity from this so I wouldn't be surprised if they end up scraping the idea eventually.

That's my thought. BMW is already back pedaling on the subscription service for features.
