Storage Experiment

Ok so I have a 2014 1LE with 770 miles on it. It went into storage in my garage on 10/21/2013. The only time i even opened the door was for a 15 minute quick install of a shifter knob other than that it sits under a cover. I am not unhooking the battery, putting a tinder on it, or starting it. I plan on replacing the exhaust in mid April, that is when I will start it for the first time. Will it start or do you think it will be dead?

You never know.. It might start right up.. Just think about how many cars are on a dealer lot that sit and don't get started for months.. Some need a jump some don't.. It depends..

I think it'll crank right up but I could be wrong, I had a friend store his ZL1 for 2 months and it wouldn't start!

Mine sat for 6 months last winter, no tender, etc. No problem. Fired up like it was stored the day before. My garage isn't climate-controlled, either.

Not all batteries are the same, you could be lucky and it start right up or you could be unlucky and have to get it recharged. Either way it goes, good luck!

It will start no doubt, I have left ours parked multiple times for months on end and never had a problem. I just hope you put stabil in the gas tank. Gas will start to go bad in your time frame of 6 months or so, the car will still run it just won't be as happy.

Full tank and stabil. I also have it on dollys so I can move it around the garage if need be.

For me, the small price of a tender lets me sleep better knowing it'll start after sitting for a few months.

Will it start without a tender? Probably, but there would always be that little nagging voice in my head that says, maybe not.

With all the electronics on cars these days, I'd always wonder if there is any kind of very small constant 'keep alive' drain for any part of the electronics that over a period of a few months would be enough to drop the voltage just enough to prevent the battery from having enough capacity left to crank it over fast enough to start the engine.

You'll never know for sure until it's time to start the car, and if it doesn't start, you'll be kicking yourself for not having the small battery tender.

It will be fine. Mine has been sitting in my garage since November (no Tender) and has not been started. Last weekend, I started it and backed it out to let it run for 15-20 minutes. It fired right up with no problems. The average temp. here over the past 3 months has been around 25 F and my garage is NOT heated.
