Custom Subwoofer and Speaker Replacement on 2SS Vert

I recently replaced the Bose audio system in my 2SS Camaro Convertible. I had the work done at a local high-end shop here in SoCal. Here's the components we used:

Front Speakers and Dash Tweeters:

Hertz MPK 165.3 ProLine 6.5" 2 way components

Rear Speakers:

Hertz MPX 165.3 ProLine 6.5" coax

Subwoofer:

Alpine R-Type 10" 1000 watt dual 4 ohm (SWR10D4)

Processor:

Audison BitONE

Amplifier:

Alpine PDX-V9 5 channel

Pics of the custom subwoofer box during construction and install. This is before fiberglass and vinyl wrap was applied. They said the top went up/down about a 100 times during the construction of this box. The boxes volume is .74

Pics of the final finished product. My goal was to have things look as "stock" as possible. I wanted to ensure all the electrical components were neatly tucked away and we still had use of what limited trunk space is available in the vert...

After the shop tuned the BitONE (timing, crossover points, etc.) it sounds absolutely amazing and I could not be happier.

Looks fantastic. Mind sharing installer and price? Did you replace all internals and speakers? Full-function interface with Mylink?

Wow, that is awesome. I knew someone would make that sub box eventually.

Did you disconnect your noise cancellation mics?

Thanks I think it turned out well too. The installer was Audio Toyz in Rancho Santa Margarita (about 90 mins from you in SD). All speakers were replaced with the exception of the center dash speaker. In order to get a clean signal on the 2SS you have to install a processor like the BitONE after the factory amp, then pass that clean signal to the aftermarket amp. Simply adding new speakers to the factory amp will NOT have the desired results. Everything is completely integrated with the factory head unit/mylink.

Price was in the 5-6K range. However, this was his 1st Gen6 convertible he worked on and the box labor was 3x what he anticipated (but they still only charged me what was originally quoted). He said he had 18 hours tied up on the sub box alone.

Yes, the ANC mics have been disconnected. You must do this in order for you not to have low frequency feedback thru your sub.

That is amazing looking. I can just imagine how good it sounds! I love my 2017 2SS Convertible, but the biggest complaint is the low budget sound. I have an aftermarket head unit/Alpine Amp/Speakers, etc that I put in my 2006 mustang that is SO much better than the factory sound in our Camaros. Glad to see someone took this on. I can't justify 5-6K right now, but knowing that it can be done, may get me motivated to make it a project I take on in a year or two.

Thanks for the pics and the info. A bit outta my range, I'll have to lower my (sonic) standards instead, at least for a while. I'm sure its worth the investment, this is the first car I've bought in years (usually lease) so I have to prove to myself I'm going to hold it for a while before dropping that kinda change. Hoping a sub/amp kit will eventually come out for the 'verts, and it will help clean up without total replacment.

Cheers,
Joel

Very nice OP

I am going with the following setup:

Front Speakers and Dash Tweeters:

Hybrid Audio technologies Legatia L6V2 7" midbass/midrange
Hybrid Audio technologies Legatia L1V2 1" tweeter

Rear Speakers:

Hybrid Audio Technologies Imagine 6.5" coax

Subwoofer:

Hybrid Audio Technologies Unity 10" dual 4 ohm

Processor:

Audison BitONE
Audion BitPlayHD

Amplifier:

Hybrid Audio Technologies Unity U5A 5 channel
Hybrid Audio Technologies Unity U4A 4 channel

definitely keeping the center channel for dolby 5.1 , running all channels with active crossovers (even the 2way setup up front)

I just found your post, and linked my custom installer here in LA regarding the subwoofer box. Do you know if your installer kept his specs? if so, I would love to contact him.

can't wait to make this thing sound as good as it looks! Great job again on your install and thank you for the post!
