I just received my 3.91 gears and Detroit Trutrac. Planning on doing the install this weekend. Wondering whats the best / recommend gear oil?

Thanks!

For a bunch of years I used Amsoil Gear Lube. Worked in everything...except this Camaro! It liked the GM OE stuff better. (quieter) But thats on a stock diff.

Detroit Trutrac does not recommend synthetics or friction modifiers. (fyi)
Go to their web page for recommendations.

I've been using Lucas 85w-140 conventional gear lube with my TrueTrac. I run the Z/28 diff cooler to help keep the temps in check since I track mine.

I have had good luck with the Amsoil Severe Gear 75W-90 in my rear so far (didn't use additional Friction Modifier). But the car is so damned loud that I probably wouldn't hear if it was making noise!

Amsoil here as well. Used Amsoil in the 1LE with GM friction modifier. And now Amsoil in the Z/28 without the modifier. Have not had any issues with either and I tracked both

It was night and day with mine. I was bummed to have to drain 2-day old Amsoil. But it's possible if it was really loud I wouldn't have caught it. Only when turning, of course.

Good to know about the TruTrac recommendation.
