why no AFM on the ZL1?

..could've avoided the GGT, no?(autos, anyway)
..skip shift eliminator to the rescue.

The auto already starts in 2nd gear and given the hefty weight of the car VVT might not have been enough to save either the manual or the auto from the tax. Even driven nicely I only get about 14 in the city. I pay a GGT every time I fill the car up, which is penalty enough instead of having an additional tax levied on the car.

Remember the video from Al O. from VIR?
fuel economy was around point #23 on the wishlist of the ZL1 buyers! rofl...

In all seriousness, it would be nice to avoid it but this did not stop me from buying one!

Why should the ZL1 have AFM? So the ZL1 gets to share the A6 SS's pain? I don't think if people are throwing down $58k for a ZL1 that they'll care at all about a couple grand gas guzzler tax.

If it did have it, owners would bitch about it and try and figure out how to get rid of it without voiding their warranty.

That's right. I had it in my SS and hated it. I am so glad my ZL1 does not have it. The GGT equals a one time fee to not have to deal with AFM FOREVER!

I am also not worried about the extra few bucks it cost me in fuel economy. If that was an issue I would have bought a Volt.

It wouldn't have helped fuel economy a ton (it's a supercharged engine, after all)....and it doesn't work well with manual transmissions...

AND.....this is a super-muscle car...what's fuel economy?

Active Fuel Management is only on automatics and "turns off" four of your cylinders in L99 cars when cruising; if you have a manual transmission LS3 then you don't have AFM.

I got the same gas mileage after I tuned out AFM on my SS. My cruising rpm dropped a bit. Still think the auto SS should have a LS3 option.

No AFM!!!!

For what the car does, I am perfectly okay with the mileage. Its better than my 02 Supercharged Frontier which has been my daily driver for 7 years so no complaints here. I get about 16-17 on average combo highway/city driving.

I take the motorcycle when I want good mileage...GG tax is a joke anyway. If they would uniformly apply the law to every vehicle on the road instead of punishing high performance car drivers, of which there is a smaller number, I wonder what would happen to SUV/truck sales...?

I wish gas was still what it was when I started driving in high school. Less than $1/gallon was nice.
