Apparently there is a "rev limiter" that cuts fuel off if you go over a certain rpm, probably the "redline".

Pretty sure the factory rev limiter pull spark not fuel. I believe stock limit is 6600.

When I had the torque converter replaced under warranty the GM tech told me he did some programming on the shifts too. Before it was shifting about 6850ish, afterwards it was a couple shy of 7100 but I haven't redlined it in years.
More into performance wax and tire shine nowadays.
