Unreal.. Repaint roof & both doors @ 580miles ???

Well, this weekend i finally got a chance to go over the car. I found spots in the clear coat on the center of roof and top of door that looks like something ate through and marred or cracked the clear coat. The passenger door clearly has a spot of dirt under the paint. the dealer wants to respray both doors and roof ! Should I be worried about the paint matching ? I cant believe I have to go through all this I haven't owned this car for a week yet. It's really hard to get pics of it but the dealer clearly sees it and is going to fix but , not sure I like the idea of all this paint work already !!! Any thoughts ?

That sucks. However now will be the best time rather than down the road when the rest of the paint would look older

Some colors are worse than others for matching and you might notice that the factory paint doesn't match from bumpers to fenders. They probably won't get the paint to match exactly so they will blend it toward the edge of the panel by gradually spraying a thinner coat. You should take a close look when its done and if you can tell it was painted tell them to do it again. It can also change in different lights...inside verses outside. They had to spray the front fender on my 99 at least 3 times to get it to match. Also, make sure the texture matches. That shouldn't be a problem since its not a new panel getting installed.

Also, when they get the color code they need to get the exact code from when it was painted in the factory. The shades of color change slightly throughout a run. This info is available if they know how to get it. And this is one reason the bumpers don't match because they aren't painted at the same time as the car.

If done right it will be fine, but make sure they disassemble mirrors, upper belt mlds, door handles and Remove roof mlds and tell them you want them replaced not just retaped! Good luck

This all depends on how good the dealers paint shop is. A propper paint job is way better than these robotic jobs. a bad paint job is 100% worse.

good auto body is art in some way and not everbody who does it is an artist ha ha.

same with matching the color if they take there time and check the paint lot ie shoot a test piece they should be able to tint it right in. if they want to rush that process you can get it a tad off.

really depends on how picky your eye is as well. I see people on here who don't think factory paint has orange peel. so that means they don't know what it is or how to look for it. the less picky your eye is the happier people are with waranty or repair paint.

Make sure if you are picky you let them know and comunicate that expectation up front. Say don't rush the job fit it in when you have time to do it right. even though some poeople will say "ohh it is a 60K car is should be right" I would even offer to pay a tad extra for perfect work just to not be the guy on here posting about how bad the touch up is.

I have learned with dealerships the more comumication you have before they touch your car the better even if they act like there mad will your doing it.

service managers don't do any work and will never admit limitation in there own shop so sometimes this is dificult. I have had a service manager tell me a fish eye was normal. that is the closest I have ever come to just knocking one out.

Just make sure that you inspect the car indoors under the flouresent lites also, becuase you will see alot more inside than outside.

Sometimes this happens. If it were a single spot then I'd consider not doing anything. If its a lot of areas that are blistered and/or damaged then paintwork will be necessary. Monitor where the car will be sent out, because a good body shop should be able to restore the car to as new condition. The trick is in finding quality work. Good luck.

Dirt/air bubbles in the rear pillars where it meets the fenders and front pillars too. I would say GM has a problem in the paint booth with this many cars getting contaminated consistently for years now. I just left it, didn't want to risk the repaint on CRT.

That's a tough one but only you will be able to answer it and how much it's sticks out when you look at it. I can tell you this, yesterday I washed my car and I've got 3 good size paint chips already. I did put a clear bra on the front and it had a number of marks as well. If you are going to drive it then it's going to get marked. You need to ask yourself if the paint imperfections are a big enough deal to risk a non-matched paint job. Also, will the imperfections be noticeable more so then the average rock chip.
