The only people who still use KBB are those who haven't bought a car for 10+ years or dealers who like to use their inflated numbers to convince buyers what a great deal they're getting.

So if kbb isn't used. How does a person find the value of a vehicle?

I usually use KBB, Edmunds and NADA and average them all together to find the avg trade in value and/or avg private sale.

Kbb shows 26k trade in and nada shows 28k trade in. That's why I was confused on the trade offer was given.

Simply False.

KBB is the closest calculation the public is going to come to Black Book and the numbers are nearly 100% accurate.

Black Book has been, is and shall be the industry standard for all dealers.

People can scream all they want and get attached to their vehicle with artificially inflated fake pricing, none of it shall change the facts.

This is nearly identical what KBB shows as trade in value, but dealers will shave 5% off for profit. Dealers know their market and will adjust accordingly to what they know they can flip the car for. My favorite are the owners who falsely believe their vehicle is worth "Full retail", then believe there is a universe whereby they are going to con some dealer into giving them that amount as a trade in. The "second opinion" is to simply pull up similar market vehicles. In the 99301 area code, there is another white 1LE for sale with less mileage for $28k. This isn't rocket science, but owners believe it is.

I've ran across dealers that use wholesale values as trade in values.

Sell it privately

Sell it privately. Of course it's a low offer as the dealer has to sell it at a profit. While it can be a hassle selling it on our own and trying to get top dollar, you're taking a big hit on the value trading it in but its hassle free. Your choice!

The same as you do for home values, find similar cars for sale within a couple hundred miles of you and use that as your leverage. I can guarantee you if you take a KBB printout with you to a dealership and demand the same trade-in value listed they won't even look at it. If they do accept it, they will make up the difference on the new car you're buying so don't expect to talk them down on it.

Why not just keep it? My almost 10 year old '09 2SS cost me $40,000 MSRP new

every option available back in 2009. The longer you keep them, the less they
cost.

Totally agree...the insurance companies also use it to figure out values too, unless you have a classic car insurer and pay for a declared value policy.

I bought my car this past Sept. from a private seller for $18,500 with 32,800 miles.

It's a 2014 2SS L99. Has aftermarket rims (Giovanna) and Borla axle back.
No other mods and a clean car fax one owner car...not a prior lease.
