Oh and I forgot to mention, these Camaro's stock from the factory had two different tunes in the transmission, if you read your manual, if you have one, it will tell you that there is a different shift pattern between the "D" mode vs the "S" mode. The "S" mode has a little more performance to it, whereas the "D" mode is more tamer for normal driving. Then when you go get them tuned, then you have a whole nother animal!! lol.

Interesting, I can 100% say my buttons don’t do anything at all unless it is in sport mode. Both my cars like I said are/were like this. In drive they are disabled.

Mine was like Wayne’s car. In D , tap shift would temporarily drop to M mode and stay that way until you stopped tapping.

I wonder if it maybe could have been a mid year update on the 10’s or something like that. Both of mine are/were early builds.

Could be. i think mine was built around 12/09. Still early enough to have that dreaded hole behind the bowtie on the trunk lid.

I drove mine this morning and still can 100% verify the only way in and out of manual mode is by pushing the shifter into sport mode and using the buttons. It doesn’t do anything if I’m im drive and use the buttons, also as I suspected I cant exit manual mode unless I push the shifter it back into drive. This has to be a mid model year update. My old car as I said was exactly like this one. My first ABM was a late oct 09 build and my current car is a May 7 09 build.

I haven't even tried that.

Wow, that's really odd! I do wonder if they did some kind of tune "upgrade" to the trans on our cars after that time frame your was built. Mine was built in July 2010 for the 2011 model year, according to my build sticker on the door jam. I bought the car in May 2011.

Yeah I could swear I was in D Mode and bumped the LH paddle and it put me into sport mode. At some point I stopped and shifted into neutral and back into D but stayed in Sport Mode, so I just put it into "M6". Never drove a tap shift car, or Auto Camaro for that matter so it's all new to me. Now I wonder if I need to address the so called reliability issued on the VVT, DOD, or whatever it is on the L99. I'm just really happy that I scored this car with ultra low miles (less than 8k!), and actually wanted a Automatic. Wanted a 2SS, but was OK with this 1SS, since the previous owner installed Katzskin Leather on the interior, so like Wow. Big Brother likes this Bee-atch parked next to him

That's awesome! With my Camaro, I never had any issues with the AFM/DOD lifters, before the tune, and even up to the header install at 19k, then we tuned them out, ran the snot out of her, lot of red line bumps too, up to the cam swap at 98k, then we did the LS3 conversion, ARM/DOD delete. I believe if you keep quality oil in the engine, and change it regularly, Mobil 1 -5w30, I did mine every 3500 miles, it was, and is still free at my dealership, and I have witnessed every oil change to date. With that, you should be good. My tech told me that the only vehicles he ever had issues with the AFM/DOD were the trucks, never any Camaros. Enjoy that new ride!!

Thanks Brother, apppreciate that input. And glad to hear the DOD stuff, cause I just want to keep this car's powertrain mostly stock. I'm like you with the regular maintenance, and a serious wrench to boot so She will be well taken care of.

I agree with Wayne keep good clean oil in it and it should run a long time. My old SS had 70K on it and had zero troubles with the valve train. I changed the oil every 3500-4000 miles or 6 months which ever came first as well.

Welcome my brother. And when the car was stock, before the LT's and the tune, when I figured out the tapshift deal, I drove her a lot in manual mode! Was pretty cool! And you didn't have to listen to the "can of bees" that it sounded like when cruising, or "farting" when it cycled in and out of AFM mode. lol.
