If i may, on the 2012 and up cars GM moved the frames of data around to make room for more things on the land bus and that is what you will need to fix to make it all work.

if that is the case the new color HUD it wouldn't function

this is something i've wanted to do myself, i've got a 2013 and was curious how plug and play it would be to get one and just pop in and go.

No the HUD works on all cars, its different data frames.

As I told you in the pm the biggest problem with this cluster is that it asks for IDs frames or it is not compatible with the modules of the 2010-11 or they don't have it, I was able to disactivate this functions in the cluster (EX: steering wheel, suspension, etc.) but it is also necessary to upgrade some modules, at the moment I only need to correct a DTC CODE "U0020"
this code is set up when fewer modules are detected on the bus before the cluster can learn the other modules IDs
