Scott - A personal Thank You for your incredible support to the Camaro community. Your professional insight and associated updates have helped quell the rumors and given us the details as to the whats and whys of this beloved Camaro's path to our doorsteps.

You must feel like this is giving birth to a baby - with options !!

After you sell your first million, you can look back and say waiting to get it right was definitely worth it.

Thanks buddy. Hope you enjoyed your cocktails !!

My worry is I don't know if I really have an order placed that GM knows about, I think I do since I got a letter, but who knows?

Thanks

Scott
GM knows your order. It was entered into Workbench, not some 3rd party site. IMO, since you have a confirmation #, you're good to go.

Dealers do not have to and, in my opinion, WILL NOT honor GMS/GMU. Why would they? To give away free money? At least they won't honor it on sold orders. New orders? Maybe. But that puts you at the end of the line and we now know that could be almost next year.

So wait a minute here. The government puts a law out there saying, "You can only sell this many cars in this area blah blah blah" but then puts up a stink when you don't sell as many cars? That doesn't make sense to me.

Let's take Maine for example (snowy climate...probably not many Camaros and Corvettes around). Say a dealership is allocated 5 Camaros. 4 are V6's and 1 is an SS. What if you have 20 people looking for an SS and nobody looking for a V6? You can't give those people their cars until you find 4 people that want to buy a V6? That means that 19 people leave the dealership and go elsewhere. Why was the government dragging their feet with the bailout money? Some of it could be their fault.

I posed the question after Scott's post about who "makes the rules" on allocation. IMO it has to be in the dealership franchise contracts and thus can be enforced in a court of law. I agree with you; why would the government have anything to do with telling what you can sell where? It makes no sense. They are in a position to enforce what you (the dealers) have agreed on.

Camaro Greg -- Please stop trying to 'interpret'.... While I believe your motives are honest and and well-meaning, you are -- perhaps unintentionally -- misleading people with some of what you are saying. I don't have the time to print off the thread, but there are just too many things that you -- and other people are 'interpreting' and most of it's wrong...............

Thoughts:

1. The one month delay is to bring you the BEST POSSIBLE Camaro ever....Let me assure you that the 'easy' thing to do would be to build the car -- get your money -- and then have you bring the cars back for 'little dissatisfiers' -- which, in reality would be upsetting to most people that they had to take a new car back for service -- .......and we are NOT willing to do that. The Camaro team feels that we need to sweat every detail on this car so that you will be completely satisfied at delivery - but MORE importantly -- you'll still have that grin on your face years after delivery.

BELIEVE ME - no one wants to 'delay' a start-up -- but we are doing this in YOUR interest as well as ours. (.....we could use the money right now....but it isn't worth it to ignore little nuances that need to be addressed.......)

2. We are NOT focusing only on V6s. We understand -- and frankly, are blessed -- that we have so many Camaro enthusiasts that have turned this car into a lifestyle -- (and some might say: addiction!)

Now for a personal comment: whomever feels we don't care about enthusiasts is living in a vacuum.
I could list for hours the things we have done to involve our valued enthusiasts in everything about this car........from electing "the 12 disciples of which there are 15" to sharing information about this car LONNGGGGGGGGGG before we -- or any other manufacturer -- has done ....EVER........

I have personally put in thousands of hours of my own time to keep the community together -- and to try and keep the faith within the community. I don't expect anyone to thank me -- or to 'cowtow' to me -- I chose to do it because, like you, I LOVE THE CAMARO -- and it was -- and is -- the right thing to do.......but when I hear someone say "GM doesn't care about us" I get a *bit upset*......

We ARE going to provide each dealer with a new Camaro -- for many reasons: We want people to come in and sit in the car -- to drive the car -- to fall in love with the car -- and to order the car of their dreams -- and we're doing it with the V6 car because we KNOW that a large percentage of our enthusiasts want a V8 engine -- so rather than build a 'stock' V8 -- we'll build V6s for stock -- and build V8s to get you your 'sold' order as soon as we can.

I know for a fact that many dealers have asked us to build them a 'stock' car so that they can have a "Camaro Celebration" with their local Camaro clubs. And -- it's no surprise that most of these cars will be Silver -- because, you see -- the Silver Concept blew people away --even people who would never normally consider a Camaro as their 'car of choice' -- and the production car is a dead ringer to the concept --......

.....oh - by the way -- CAFE will play a role in future years of the Camaro -- but right now, we're safe.......

We are not **completely stupid** -- we KNOW how badly you want your new Camaros -- and it's our intent to do whatever we can to get them to you ASAP -- BUT - we won't ship cars until we're confident that we've taken care of any outstanding issue.

Now -- I must warn you -- John, Cheryl and I are going to be tied up with NAIAS for the next several days -- so we won't be able to come onto this site at will and answer your questions - and if the thread goes to a couple of hundred posts -- I won't be able to read 'em all.......

What I would simply ask you to do is know that:

>We are BLESSED to have you as a Camaro Enthusiast
>We want your new Camaro to be the best car you've ever owned..
>We only wish we could see the grins on your collective faces the first time you get behind the wheel -- turn the key -- and drive at a *lively pace* out of the dealership.
>We are working long into the night to address any issues that we feel need to be addressed before shipping new Camaros to you.
>We want to sell as many Camaros as possible -- because that allows us to work on a 6th gen........but to do that, we also know that the car has to appeal to more than just enthusiasts -- and that's where the V6 comes into play.......

Thanks for your continued patience -- I think you'll find the wait was more than worthwhile..........
Scott

Thanks for the update. You and the Camaro team are doing an excellent job and we'll do our part here in Oshawa. As a forth generation GM employee currently working in the Camaro flex plant i can tell you this is a great platform to be a part of. Myself and the men and woman of the Oshawa operation are proud to be a part of this great North American sports car and look forward to a successful launch of the all new 5thGen Camaro. GO GM , GO TEAM CAMARO.

Thanks for the post Scott, as usual. I hate to sound like a negative nancy, because typically that's not my MO, but did you really answer the question of how the 50/50 build plan will affect the "allocations" of SS pre-ordered?

The odds of them disclosing this info is pretty slim. You never want your customer to know what your quality problems are, because then the customer population has a tendency to "look" for a problem that may or may not exist.

Also - THANK YOU SCOTT for coming on here and easing alot of people's frustration and anxiety.

Agreed, and exactly for the reason you suggest. However, I'll bet you lunch that we know what the cause(s) were before production launch. It will leak.

You probably right. It is bound to get leaked out why the dely is for, I was just saying from a Buisness standpoint.

If it does get out and I'm ever up in the Bufflo area for Buisness I'll honor that lunch! LOL!

Not a bad idea. Once I have my Camaro, I have this feeling I will be doing alot more weekend "road trips." Is there an Indy gathering next year?

Allocation Numbers

There is so much information/mis-information/prayer/hand holding in the forum, the only thing that really matters is the exact number of SS and V6 Camaros that are being allocated by specific Dealer in 2009. Nothing else matters.
GM will soon be publishing the exact number of SS cars they will build this year and each and every Dealer will know exactly how many he will have to sell.

Then the Dealers can look at their unofficial GM Pre Orders and try to offer their SS cars to the people who ordered SS cars and let them know if they will get one the last half of the year or 2010. Then the SS pre order guys can do one of two things.

1. Go to a dealer who did not do preorders and pay thru the nose
2. Wait until 2010 to buy one.

I did not preorder because I knew deep down inside what was going on but if I had and knew I was not getting one till 2010 once the exact, accurate numbers are released I would get my deposit back and renegotiate my deal at invoice plus in 2010, not MSRP.

Guys GM knows or will know very soon the exact number by Dealer, if they don't then they should go out of business. The Dealers will also know and some will be honest and share that information with their customers, others will not share the numbers and keep everyone hanging.

I am not being negative here, only posting my best sense of what I believe will happen. Once we have the allocation by Dealer then and only then will you know where you stand. All other discussion is BS.

Best Regards
Steve
