Gen 5 Camaro's Value Headed North!

I signed up for Kelly Blue Book alerts on my car value last year. Sometime around the 1st of this year my car was worth $27K. I know that because that's the lease residual. (buyout - 2015 2SS RS)

Through 5/4/17:

Curious I guess. I will probably keep the car but the lease ends next June. It would be nice not to be $10K upside down. But I have little control over that. Then again, cars ain't much of an "investment." But my 401K's aren't nearly as fun to drive!

Value will go North as buyers will look back fondly of the first edition of Camaro rebirth, solid numbers for Gen 5 and traditional muscle car look & feel. Chevy can monkey around like Ford did with Mustang as the sales numbers go down.

Isn't it better to value and enjoy what you have than to trade it in for something newer with value yet to be established? Generation 5s are instant classic that we enjoy again and again.

If a Gen6 is a sports car then GM is trying to justify the price. A 2+2 sports car, really?

They're not. It's no different than calling them muscle cars when they're actually pony cars. Same as people who spell Camaro with an "e" or think firebirds are Camaros or vice versa. You can lump as many labels as you want in there and there will be a massive backlash of debate in every direction.

$10K upside down?
Does that mean you will owe $37K on a car worth $27K? So if it's value goes up to $29 you will only be $8K upside down?

What it means is - if 2017 were my 'put up or re-lease' time, the car is worth approximately $2K on the street more than I owe to BUY it out. NOW! Big if. So next year, I owe $27K to buy it. If it's worth less (which is very likely) and if I REALLY want it, I suck it up and pay cash or get a loan for $27K, REGARDLESS of what it's "worth" on the street. Or...turn it in and settle for a 6th Gen on another lease.

Maybe a better way to answer your question is, if I were $10K upside down next year, I'd owe $27K on a car worth $17K. Make sense?

It is spring cars always go up a bit because of tax season. More people are buying. By summer and new model year release it will drop $5k easy
