High Pressure fuel pump leak
I have a 2014 3.6 and it seems to be leaking from the high pressure fuel pump around the electrical plug area, is this an easy swap, can it be done from under the vehicle? Vehicle only has 27k mileage and has an overkill tune installed. Thanks

I went through this, but had a shop take care of it for me. The work seemed a little too specialized to do, with the very high pressures of this fuel system and requiring the new pump to be aligned with the cam.
Had to be done after taking the UIM and such off.

All work is done from under the hood. Will need to remove intake manifold as well as bracket/foam at the back of the engine. It is also often suggested that if removing these types of fuel lines they be replaced and not reused. I have the part numbers for the pipe assemblies and pump gasket if needed (I'm at work at the moment). To align the camshaft and pump plunger you can do what the guy in the video did (near end of video), or if I remember correctly when the #1 piston is at top dead center the cam will be aligned properly. To check for TDC, pull the spark plug in #1 (front of engine, passenger side) and shove something like a thin paintbrush handle down into the combustion chamber (something soft so as to not scratch the piston), crank the engine over with a ratchet (turn clockwise, looking at the engine, so passenger side is 9:00, driver side is 3:00) and see when the brush handle stops moving up. You could also pop off the valve cover to see, if you're so inclined to do so.

Thanks buddy! That’s a great help, if you do have the part number for the pipe that would need replacing too that would be great thanks!

Pump gasket (I assume would come with a new pump): 12633917
Pump o-ring (I assume would come with a new pump): 12602379 Low pressure pipe (from gas line to pump): 12671746 High pressure pipe (from pump to fuel rails): 12639208 I've also read that the bolts should be replaced if removing; not sure what the part number is; it might be 11570139 but can't confirm. Again, I assume the bolts would come with a new pump, or just re-use with some blue loc-tite.

It looks like you posted here and in the LLT forum (where I first responded). Here’s that post:
Ugh. I was interested in upgrading my HPFP after going supercharged since that is the weak link in the fueling system. In that process, I looked at write ups on the pump replacement. It didn’t look fun. Doable with a good box of tools, but not fun. Check out this post and the note on tools in post #9. This should be basically the process you’re up against. https://www.cadillacforums.com/threa...ement.1088243/ |
