Exclamation Why is football so popular?

I hate ball sports, especially football. I don't understand why people like it so much? I'd rather pour acid into my eyes than watch a football game or any other ball sport game. Help me understand. I played baseball back in school and our team went undefeated for the year. Yay. But I played mostly to be with and have fun with friends and could never stand to sit on the sidelines and watch it. This is my sport BTW:

I've raced amateur and love to watch it equally as much as doing it as I know first hand how hard it is and have the utmost respect for the top-tier riders. But so many football fans that probably never even stepped foot on the field to play? Why is that? Is it because it's so old? I can say that playing football is a great workout because I was playing with a few friends about a month ago and I was sore as shit the next day, lol. But it has nowhere near the thrill and rush factor of ripping a dirt bike around a track. It's quite slow and boring in comparison. But maybe that's the difference between me and the general population is that I have first hand experience partaking in something with a much higher rush and thrill factor? Just like the football fans don't like to watch knitting competitions? I really want to know why football is so popular and why the fans like it so much. 100% serious question.

Oh boy...I'm going to get barbecued...should I hit submit? **** it... I hate football and ball sports in general and I don't care if this post offends you and have to vent about it just this once!

I enjoy playing and watching basketball (mainly college). Played my whole life.

I got sick and tired of the NFL, I literally watched 30 seconds (end of game) of the Super Bowl this year

To each his own. I've been to several NFL games but I don't care for football much at all. I could never get into it. Some of my friends like it.

Personally I like baseball and NASCAR.

I can't speak for other fans, but I grew up watching football with my dad, then started playing in 6th grade, and played up until high school was over. In that time, I've played in florida, texas, and Alaska. so I was able to get a lot of different views of the game from a lot of different coaches. I learned a lot about the game in that time.

The NFL is just another reality competition show, like Survivor. Any pretense it's related to actual sports has long since passed. It's just entertainment and mostly populated by deranged, anti-social, sociopaths who make for good press and bring in the dollars for the owners/sponsors.
