Oof! Man you know they make it sound so "simple" by calling them "Drop-in" but if they cost that much to install that is crazy!

HorsePowerAddicts in northern DE is doing H/C & tunes for right around $5k (including parts). Given the fact that the shop is already charging you to remove and install the engine, pull the valvetrain and heads... for the H/C intall, a good shop won’t charge you twice for all that. I can’t see a shop charging over $1000 in additional labor to do drop in pistons & rods, given the engine is already out and down to a shortblock.

Many variables.. if you are dropping off a car is very different than dropping off a fully dressed block.

I think drop in just means no machine work involved. They drop in after then engine is out and you have the pan off I guess

Usually a light hone is required for drop in pistons.

drop-in means drop 3 large in the bucket process?
