I have two keys separate from the remote. Obviously they don't have batteries.

I don't understand why would it matter if the FOB battery was dead?

Look it up: Immobilizer. Ignition anti theft. A little padlock icon
shows up on the Camaro dash. Everything else is dead.
AAA driver knew right off it was the key battery. My cars been
good to go ever since the key battery was replaced.

My Street glide has a fob, the bike wont start unless your within 10' or if the battery is dead in the fob. But don't feel bad, I started my bike then took my jacket off and went for a ride, nice day didn't need the coat. Stopped for gas and realized when my bike wouldn't start I left the fob in the jacket
