Why do used S-10 pickups cost so much?
I have been searching for a used S-10 pickup. One of the 87-93 models. So far I have only found a few that were not completely worn out and rusted through. Today I looked at a 91 with 180,000 miles on it. Book value in excellent condition retail was $3,000. They were asking $4,900 for it. I could only get them down to $4,000. Then I looked at a 93 model, it was only showing 76,000 on the odometer but it looked like it had 3 times that much on it. The passengers side door was rusted out, the left front fender had been replaced, the seat belts wouldn't latch, the paint was peeling on the tailgate and the bottom of it had rust, plus the dashboard was cracked in 3 places. Get this they were asking $5800 for it. I felt at the most the truck was a $1500-$2000 truck. All I could get them down to was $3800.
Why do people think these trucks are worth so much?

The old rule of supply and demand. The demand is high for these, so the price is too.

My dad had a 92 with almost 200k. Engine (4.3) and auto trans were bullet proof. The body rusted real bad from driving to a steel mill everyday. He traded it (cars for clunkers) on a 2009 canyon.

The prices are high because all the "mow and blow" people bought them up.

Yeah local area, within 75-100 miles. The ones in that price range that I have seen so far are total crap.

I found one tonight and went and looked at it and bought it. He was asking $3250 and i talked him down to $2500. It's a 96 regular cab short bed with the 2.2L 4cyl and 5 speed manual. It has 63,000 miles and has had the same owner since 2007.
Here is one of the pics from his ad, can anyone identify these wheels? They are missing 2 center caps.

Ford Rangers are less pricey and can handle a good beating.

I park next to a S-10 at school and it is completely rusted. I haven't seen many that weren't covered in rust. My dad was thinking about selling his Sierra and getting an S-10 to get better gas mileage, but when he got to looking at them, they were wanting $7k-$8k for a nice ZR2 with 80K+ miles.

I have a '98 Sonoma SLS Extended Cab 4.3L with 79k miles on it.
Some minor paint issues from age and she loves leaving me a little puddle of engine coolant when the temperature dips under 50 degrees. Other than that she's fine. Gas hog though.
