As was mentioned before...you cant really call it a BASE vette. yeah u can get the z51 package...but thats not enough to constitute calling the former a BASE model such as the camaro LS is a BASE model. ...Just saying...I own a 1987 vette conv..and a 2008 conv.(z51 for the nay sayers) and am waiting on my SS..but there is no way i would trade it for the vette

I'm going to take the high road on this one and let you review the numbers yourself.
Seriously. The dude goes and says "your comparing slowest to fastest" then he goes and does the same thing.

The Vette is a 12 second car, the Camaro is a 13 second car. On average.

I don't think these threads are about corvette guys worried about the camaro "stealing their thunder"--it's just a valid question considering that camaros are going for MSRP and corvettes can be had at something like 10k under msrp, almost eliminating the price gap between the two. I for one, am cross shopping the two, and fwiw am favoring the corvette. Don't get me wrong, I love the 2010 camaro..I have a $100 "toy" (bumblebee) here next to me on my desk..but the opportunities at hand to get into a vette at historical lows is really something to consider if you are in the market for a ~40k sports/muscle car.

The best way to answer this is to go test drive both..might be more difficult to test drive a new ss, but seems like recently, they are starting to populate dealer lots. GL with your decision---you can't lose with either one

I completely agree..but even the most generous 5th gen lovers are saying 12.7 will be as good as it gets (if you look on the MFBA I made a prediction that we would see a 12.6)... even if the 12.7 happens it's still 1 second difference... .9 difference if someone managed a 12.6. I use the 'best' possible times to weed out bad drivers..if I am going to look at how a car performs I don't like to muddy it up with 100 screwed up runs made by people who can't drive. I was being perfectly fair IMHO using the best 5th gen times vs best corvette times..I even allowed for the 12.7 that hasn't happened yet (otherwise there is technically more than a 1 second difference in ET)... I am sure someone will hit a 111mph trap this winter so I won't have the 10mph claim... it might drop to about an 8mph difference... that part is a wait and see game. The whole point of my post was to point out how wrong people are to marginalize the corvettes performance in hopes of making the Camaro seem better than it is. There is no shame in the Camaros performance... it's just not on par with Chevy halo car. Nothing but a fact really... the Corvette deserves it's respect.

Not even sure how to respond here... A is faster than C, so C is equal to B? Did I read that right? You came to that conclusion how? FAIL.

See my point... These cars are very close in horsepower, and a few hundred pounds different. That's not going to equal 1 second... Also, we are talking about the base corvette. Not the Z51 corvette, not the grand sport corvette, not the z06 corvette...
We are using what actual people run at real dragstrips and not using GPS based timing equipment. Do you have any experience running at a track? What are your times? Post some timeslips? Otherwise take your 'information' elsewhere, it looks like you live life 'one page at a time'.

Guys, quit magazine racing. That is lame!

I bought a C6 when they first came out in '05. With the LS2 and a manual, I drove it to a 12.29 stock. My '10 SS went 13.0 stock. That is a major ass-whipping, for those of you that don't understand what a tenth of a second is worth visually in a race. The 08+ LS3 Corvettes hit high 11s with a good driver, low 12s normally.

These cars shouldn't be compared. If performance is your #1 concern, get a Corvette. If you just enjoy having the latest gadget in hotrods, and need rear seats, then the Camaro is for you. No sense basing the comparisons on performance, because the Camaro isn't even in the same league as the Corvette.

I still own both, now I have an '09 Z06 and the '10 SS.

Just buy what you want to buy. Yes the vette is faster and quicker and more expensive and not many are built in the course of the year but that is because nobody wants them. The dealership where I bought my Camaro SS hasn't ordered a Vette in over 2 yrs. They have sold over 12 Camaros' all at MSRP. The Vette is faster because it's made from fiber glass not sheetmetal like the Camaro. The Vette is over 1000lbs less then the Camaro SS. I'd love to own a vette but I am really happy with my 2010 Camaro SS

Not disagreeing with your general premise...but the Vette is only ~640 lbs lighter. 3860 v. 3217.

Exactly... the other difference in the 1/4 is made up by a minor gap in power, drivetrain differences, aerodynamics, and gearing (I'm sure small other things exist). It's not 1000lbs lighter though as stated.

I think you totally missed the point of my post as well as others posts... I was quoting magazines (by the way, the sources were quoted.. wow... ). You CANT post 1 drag vs another drag at totally different times, tracks, weather, add-ons, etc, and say this car is 1 second faster than that car. That is as rediculous as me posting magazine times, and saying wow they are a close match... That was the point of my post. Also, I still don't believe that 11.7 time was a fully stock 1LT vette, but hey, it was on the internet right, so it must be true...

LOL, what? I was showing that the Z06 was pulling the same times as what you were quoting for a stock 1LT vette.

I just honestly wouldn't own a BASE corvette. It'd just leave you wanting more, I mean we all know it's the far more superior performance car, but just that feeling that I could have had a decked out 2SS/RS and the fact that the Camaro is one of the hottest cars on the road right now is pretty much the reason why I bought a camaro.

I have an 08 LS3 1LT z51 Npp auto vette.Dyno`d stock at 370rwhp through an automatic trans. It went 11.80@118.82. I`m GMRULZ here as well. I own a 2010SS as well as an 2008 C6. The DA was incredible for the day it was around -900DA. And yes I`m number 2 on the list number 1 was 11.71. Mine for sure was bone stock down the air filter and even stock air pressure in the tires. Now the guy w/ the 11.71 there is some contention by others that he had a tune, no one knows for certain, and he denies it and says he took the tune back out before he ran the 11.71. I recieved several pm`s when I ran my time telling me that they thought I should be 1rst and the other guys time thrown out. I had to submit my time slip to be approved as well. I`m fine w/ number 2 though, that way I don`t get the "thats BS" posts...

Here`s the link to the Corvette page:

THE LIST

Regarding correction factors:
Times are received from all over the country and are not corrected. Because track and weather conditions vary, this list ranking does not, and can not, identify the fastest cars or drivers in any particular order. It only lists the recorded times, regardless of conditions, in order from quickest to slowest. In cases where ET is the same, the higher MPH determines list order.
