Not trying to hijack; but how cold is considered too cold?

Here is the deal.

If you park the car outside, then the tires will get cold soaked and will be terrible to drive on when it hits about 45. You will notice a huge difference in traction but as long as its dry you should be good.

If its parked in a garage then you can go a few degrees cooler.

Any type of winter precipitation, even drizzle along with cool weather, will be like driving on ice. It's just not worth it. People claim that as long as you drive slow etc etc you will be fine. It's not about you, its about other people driving crazy and you having to react to them. You just wont on summer tires.

CA you should be fine... I've had summer-only performance tires on multiple cars and daily drive in the rain all the time, never had any issues.

I daily drove mine in Houston, and it was fine. CA you should be okay.

This is a new compound and tread pattern though, so only time will tell. Nobody has any idea what to expect, but it does appear the dry traction is better than the previous Gen from the reviews on the ZL1.

California is a big state with huge variances in temps. OP what part of Cali are you talking about. Just this weekend one part of the state was in the 80's while some mountainous areas were getting snow.

If they're anything like the G2's they're basically useless in heavy rain. Does it still rain in CA? Don't buy or not buy the car cause of the tires. I know for a fact guys that track these will buy the OE tires from you if you slap on some better street tires. Happened all the time with the Gen 5 1LE.

Basically if it's below 50 degrees, have your ass puckered. If it's below 42-45, drive something else (or have all-seasons on it). Rain only matters if it's cold.

Realistically, since mine is going to be my only car, and work pays for public transport... I'll drive it to work above 45 degrees (even in rain), otherwise I'll ride the bus and leave the 1LE in the garage - Keeps the car cleaner longer too

When I got my current car (5.0 PP) I got caught in the rain at about 40 degrees out with my stock summer only tires on. Pucker factor engaged and I went out and bought winter/tires and wheels the next day lol. I planned on doing so, just didn't think I needed to until it snowed.....Man was i wrong. Definitely won't make that mistake again.

The stock tires in rain were downright scary to me to drive, glad I got rid of them

I did something similar with a C5 FRC years ago... Learned my lesson for every car since.
