Spike lug nuts

Hi everyone,

I was wondering if someone here drives with spike lug nuts?
I wanted to install a set on my Camaro a while ago, yet now I am really about to do that.
I appreciate any help, as I have never dealt with spike lugs. What brands are worth it and which ones make poor quality products?
Here are some other questions I also have:
1) Are they street legal?
2) Do they make extra noise?
3) Is it better to pick one- or 2-piece lugs?
4) What material is better: steel or aluminum?
Any help is appreciated.
Cheers!

Don't.
Just don't.

Besides being ugly, they're going to be more difficult to install and remove
The list goes on, but the first word is all that's really needed.

^^^^ THIS!!! My buddy has them on his black and orange Transformer themed Camaro, and they look HORRID!! JUST PLAIN HORRID!! They don't belong on a Camaro, save them for the BIG jacked up trucks with the chromies on them. But, it is your car, you do what you want. By the way, in all the years and all the Camaro's I've seen around and at the shows, his is the ONLY one..

First, I thought maybe “spike” is a brand of some sort of high tech lug nut but, no we’re actually talking about spiked lug nuts.
Imho, that’s not a look for a car like this but, to each their own.

Its a fung shui thing so i would add them to a Camaro only IF it had those stylish headlight eyelashes too.

Was out for s cruise today and came upon a big white pickup truck raised way up with the giant chrome duallie wheels and custom polished undercarriage and looked at the wheels hubs and guess what??? BIG SPIKIES ALL THE WAY AROUND... lol. Leave them to the trucks.

Wow, thanks for the replies, folks. Telling you the truth I have never seen a Camaro with spiked lug nuts as well, yet I thought this might be a nice upgrade. As I said, I have never dealt with spike lug nuts, and do not really know much about them, so decided to share this idea before I go and purchase them. Though I've heard people put spiked lugs on different vehicles, so I did not really think this is something for trucks only.
Well, as long as so many people say 'don't', I'd rather think of something else for my Camaro. Just don't want to look weird with those lugs on, you know.
Cheers!

I helped a friend of my daughters to try and swap a set of wheels with these and the lugs used a really long socket that went over the spike onto the nut portion. They were definitely overtightened by the last person to put them on, but after using cheater pipes, penetrating oil etc. to no avail, I resorted to putting an impact on the provided socket. It worked on about 9 of the 12 front lugs and then came apart. It did not crack or mushroom, chunks came off the end of the socket and this was only a 550lbft rated impact. Before resorting to the impact, knowing the socket was Chinese crap, I considered putting a wrench over the socket and using a really long cheater pipe, but there was not enough nut sticking out to get a bite on. The end result was he went and got another socket from the local wheel store and we put that junk back together. Not sure what happened after that because my daughter no longer hangs out with that group of losers.

OP, you made a wise decision to vet your plans on here.

Spiked lug nuts (yes I've sen them at cruise nights) are:
  • Generally found on "fast and furious" tuner cars
  • Hideously ugly
  • A genuine threat to pedestrians
  • Thus a sure sign of immaturity and/or stupidity

Should be illegal.

I think these look good. Again, its YOUR car. Do what you like!

Side note, I've seen some that look like trash as well.

I have a set I got from American muscle that have been sitting in my backseat for about 4 months now. I may throw them on just to see how they look.
