Steering wheel clicking

Last week I installed some long tube headers on my 2010 SS. I did the work myself and when I put the drivers side header in I carefully disconnected the steering shaft and moved it out of the way to allow room for the header to fit. When I was done I carefully reconnected it and tightened it down by hand nice and snug. Now I’ve noticed that the steering wheel or column clicks when turning right. Most noticeable when stopped when I turn the wheel either direction. Will do it when the car is off as well. There is definitely play somewhere whether the steering shaft or column or wheel. Trying to figure out where to start.. could I have damaged the clock spring or something? It’s not the shaft hitting the headers either.. there is plenty of clearance. I can rock the wheel right to left and it will click click click. Any help is appreciated.

When the clock spring is damaged your horn tone will not sound in most instances. From reading your post I would say you spun the clock spring when you removed the steering shaft. Next time insert a locking pin into the underside of your steering column to prevent the steering wheel from turning thus preventing damaging the clock spring ( coil ) . Hope you find this helpful.

Thank you for the help, I felt like I was very careful when disconnecting and reconnecting the shaft. I guess I may have damaged the clockspring somehow still. Next question is how hard/expensive would it be to repair?

Knuckle on the steering shaft may be hitting the header. Do some searches. I think from reading it is kind of common. You may have to dent the head pipe for clearance .

This.
When I added headers to my 95 Z28 the knuckle on the shaft was rubbing. Took it out and used a grinder to remove some of the knuckle, no more rubbing.
