Exclamation PLEASE, NO PRODUCTION DELAY!!!

This link was just sent to me. Seems to be no company to build the seats? Is this something GM can overcome without production delays?

Wow that's a bummer, especially for the 400 people out of a job. Hope they all get back on their feet.

if worst comes to worst, they'll outsource the job to Australia... those seats, while new and unique, are Holden designed and as long as there are Holden seats being assembled for the G8 in Oz, they'll be able to build them down there, too... no worries, things are going just fine... this is why they lay out production estimates so far in advance... plenty of time to make changes.

It did say that all seat work will be done in the plant next door, so there shouldn't be any delays. They're just cutting back on costs. I hope the workers let go can get back on their feet.

Why are these companies so screwed up? They got a big job coming to them and they are laying off right before the job comes. I wonder if sales projections were lowered making the demand for these seats lower. Can anybody explain to me how this happens?

I have a bunch of stock in Johnson Controls. They are a good company...but, this is not good news. Hopefulluy, they can absorb the new work in Plant Two. If not, there are other ways (Australia being one) to get the seats made.

"The Camaro doors will now be built in Mississauga but no company has been subcontracted to make the seats for the long-awaited sports car," Mr. Williams said.

SilverTurtle, I like your idea mate. Sounds feasible if they can take the work load. Shipping half way around the world has to cost $$$. Round trip to New Zealand and Antarctica was pretty expensive 9 years ago. Cargo shipping from down under would have a definate impact on price to consumers.

not as much impact as you would think, look at the g8 all of them are made in australia and then shipped here, and they still sell for under 30k.....

Hmm.. How much you want to bet that new union contract had something to do with it.

Just put in some recaros and charge for the difference, and considering how much stock seats cost, it probably wouldn't be that much extra.

Only the V6's now. The G8 GT's are over $30K now for even the base model. They had quite a price increase for the 2009 model year.

Probably because of the gas for the ships.
