Hit SR-87 starting Chandler as goes through downtown Mesa, the Salt River Indian Reservation and Fountain Hills. You can take 87 to Shea in Fountain Hills and roll by the Fountains in downtown or even roll through Fort Mcdowell Casino.

You can always take 188 to Globe and take the 60 back. There is a 20 mile stretch between Miami and Superior where you can go fast through the mountains.

That is another good option as I like that drive. Too many choices for sure. I guess it just depends on how many cars, and how long everyone wants to drive for.

You would definitely see the Superstition Mountains, Red Mountain, Camelback Moutain, and it would be a great drive. So many choices, so little time.

We had 317 cars last year. Don't know how many this year, but I have to go with 300 to play it safe. Also, we want to keep the drive to maybe an hour. People will want to get to the track, so we have to do the drive and get there.
Feel free to map it out guys. Not sure where the "Globe" is, etc. |

A real kick ass scenic one would be to head north up the I-17 and take the 179 to Sedona. From Sedona take 89A west through Jerome all the way to 89. Then take 89 south into Prescott and to 69 east. Take the 69 east to 169 and back to the I-17. Might take all day but it would be worth it for scenery.

C'mon guys...lol
We have to keep this to an hour drive. Believe me, I after seeing the pictures and knowing what's out there to see, I want to spend about 4 hours on another trip I mapped out. I just KNOW it would be beautiful. But, we have to really nail this down due to time. We'll have to get people there to the track at a reasonable hour. Track opens at 9am and we'll be leaving around 7:30am...depending on distance and drive time for the cruise...SAT am. |

Another one I can think of is to take the I-10 north from Firebird up to the SR51 through Downtown Phoenix. Get off on the 51 at Lincoln and head east into the mountains. This will take you past the entire Phoenix Mountain range (Camelback included) and through Paradise Valley. When you hit Scottsdale Road turn left going north, then hit Indian Bend going east. Indian Bend will take you by the Pavillions just before the 101, the Pavillions holds one of the major weekly car events. Once you hit the 101 (in view of Casino Arizona) get on and head south bound until you hit the 202 at the end of the 101. Take the 202 west to the I-10 and go back South to Firebird. This should be an hour and half pretty easy on the weekend.

With the amount of cars this should be fine and all the way we can do 65-75 depending on how the cops feels about 300+ cars driving all together. The map is here: http://www.azdot.gov/Highways/Valley_Freeways/Index.asp There are many great drives in AZ, and hopefully you all come back to enjoy those drives, but just don't come back in the summer unless you like 115 degrees.

I believe there are 8 lights including the on/off ramps at the 51 and 101. Lincoln is pretty bare bones when you get into Paradise Valley, very low population. I lived Paradise Valley/Scottsdale portion of this route for years, if you might even get some traffic support from Paradise Valley and more likely Scottsdale PD.
