Mailslot fill-in.

I'm curious what others have paid to get rid of their mailslots?

I am planning on getting rid of my mail slot, I am looking for a donor facia so I can cut a piece out and weld it in, when I come up with it I will post some pics.

Not talking about the fill in piece (because IMO that looks even worse). I mean having a body shop fill it in. Trying to estimate before I get an estimate...Market research...

It's TEO and can be plastic welded, I already welded in the holes from the front plate mount, piece of cake, everybody replaces the facia when they can be repaired via welding at a fraction of the cost.

I have no problem with the mail slot with a stock hood, I am planning on customizing mine and don't think the mail slot looks right with a scoop on it.

For those interested, here are a couple of photo's, one of the plate mount holes made by the dealer, and one after the welding, obviously I'm not going to paint it untill I do the mail slot delete. After welding, prep and paint it will disapear like majic LOL.

That's not bad! Good job. I've never heard of plastic welding. I'm going to have to look this up.

Seems now a days everyone replaces not repairs. You can plastic weld with a hot air welder, airless welder or even a soldering iron. The key is the material has to be completely clean and identified so the proper filler rod and heat range can be used. In the case of the Camaro's front and rear facia fiber flex rod seems to work very well, they are made of TEO, Teo and PP are two of the toughest plastics to weld but not at all hard. Welding in my plate holes took about 15 min after the facia was removed.Filling in the mail slot would require a donor piece, backed by wire mesh for additional strength then the welding, filler, prep and paint. After the welding you can use a flexible filler as you would spot putty for a flawless finish.

I have a v-6 fascia sitting at my father's place in Ohio... for the right person wanting to part it away into mail slot filling pieces. (that is if he doesn't want it, I think he was thinking about mounting it in his garage, but ionno.)
