Diff fluid leaking from vent tube, separate reservoir ideas? - Camaro5 Chevy Camaro Forum / Camaro ZL1, SS and V6 Forums

I have a Geforce S60 rear end with 3.54's and an Eaton Trutrac. Occasionally diff fluid leaks from the vent tube and leaks down the rear subframe. Not a huge deal and typically only after some 150+ mph runs in Mexico. I was thinking about installing a reservoir that I can plumb the vent line into so when the fluid comes up the tube it will go into the reservoir and then drain back down into the diff. The reservoir would have to be vented as to not cause pressure build up in the diff that would push axle seals out. Has anyone done this? Looking for ideas on how to do this.

The diff isn't overfilled, its at the correct level before anyone asks.

I did it for a bit on a hammerhead. I used a short piece of fuel line going into a fuel filter and then a poppet on top of that. Stopped it from oozing.

Lingenfelter used to make one, but no longer available. The issue I think I've encountered for this on my 9" is where to put the reservoir so it's out of the way and can drain back into the diff. The LPE put a bladder in the cross-member above the diff. I've thought about shoving a 1-2" diameter rubber hose about 12" long into the cross-member and having a smaller hose (3/8") go from the diff to the bladder. The bladder would need a vent on the top of it. Just a thought.

I was contemplating putting it in the trunk and drilling a small hole where the battery is located and running that to the vent. However it does have to be vented and I'm not sure I want to smell gear oil inside the car... I'm bringing my car to my shop tonight to tinker around with it and see what I can come up with. I have a reservoir already I just have to figure out how to mount it someplace high enough to drain back into the diff.

Ya. I keep getting suggestions to put it in the trunk behind either side panel... not wanting that. The battery well is already occupied by my water/meth tank and pump (but that's putting it in the trunk too). Interested to see what you find out tonight.

I'll figure something out, much easier to fabricate stuff when it's right in front of me. I'll be sure to post pics of whatever crazy idea I come up with. I'm not opposed to a roof mount at this point lol

Ya, this is the (picture) crap my knucklehead installer sends me. This one was for a rear mounted catch can reservoir, but similar usage.

lmao, well I tinkered around with it last night and came to the conclusion that there is zero room under the car to mount anything. Especially with this big ass diff under it now. I'm going to try the inline filter because that's about the only thing I have room for. Otherwise ill just spray it down with brake cleaner every time I do an oil change. About all I can do other than a trunk mount and I'm not willing to smell 80w-90 inside the car lol.

You didn't think the vehicle frame was good? Or, that it's nearly impossible to get to without totally dropping the diff or carriage?

It's damn near impossible to get to without dropping a ton of stuff. Option B I thought about was a trunk mount but drilling a second hole to run a vent hose back outside the car in the spare tire area. Which I still may do as I could have that all done in about 10 mins of work.
