Who would you chose to build your 1200hp+ Shortblock?

I've already worked up a nice quote with TSP that I'm fairly happy with.

New LY6 block
CP pistons 4.030 (.200)pins (or.230?)
TSP I beams
TSP Forged Crank (3.622)
ARP mains
balanced, bearings, rings, shipped to my house with 12 qts break in oil.
$5224.
The reason I've gone with Iron, is due to strength. It seems its becoming more popular that guys over 1100whp are cracking the stock sleeves in the ls3. Even the standard stroke, stock sleeve ls3 short blocks cost a good $1600 more, and aren't as strong as iron. Thoughts?

Would you change anything in that build list?

I think that should take some good abuse. However I was concerned with the Iron weight penalty.

While the car is down I will be stripping it down as much as I can to shed weight. I'm sure I can get 75#s off of it. Maybe not off the nose, but..

I"ve checked with Thompson, LME, couple local guys. No one can seem to beat their price.

Who would you chose to build your short block.

FYI, I have assembled 3 motors myself over the years, and all of them, are still running great today. However not at this power level. Not sure plastiguage is a good idea this time around. Then again, I trust NO ONE.

I can't say I've heard of them, not to say they aren't good. Was looking for a larger company that can afford to right their wrongs if they arise.

We have a couple proven short blocks we have been doing lately. We'll have then listed on our site soon. Forged iron block 6.0, a forged LS3 and we'll have a LS3 stroker available soon as well. Quality builds that are priced to move. Currently we've just been doing them on local builds but we will be shipping them soon.

If you are comfortable with assembling engines - I would tear down the assembly and check every measurement twice then re-assemble. Maybe a good micro polish on the crank and an alum barbel. ARP studs - but you are prob already doing that. Studs on the mains can change the clearance. Maybe talk to TSP and assemble the clearances to run 10-40 oil.

We could come close to an iron block build like this, but at 1200+hp I would definitely suggest paying to go with proven components such as Callies Ultra Rods / Callies Dragonslayer / Magnum crank, etc.

TSP gave you a pretty sharp price, I doubt you will be able to do better for the money.

Thats how I feel right now. I’m over building it to support 1050-1100. But they rate it to 1300. Of course there are no guarantees.

Thompson is also running a nice sale on their Dart SHP. Does anyone know how it compares to the ly6. Weight? Strength? Fitment? Does it need special covers and stuff?

Dart SHP has different oiling - priority mains. Longer and thicker cylinders for stroker combos. Thicker deck. Better bay to bay breathing and better cooling around the outboard side of the cylinders - does away with cross bolted mains. Will easily handle 1500-1800 hp. If you are going to stretch to Dart go with 4.125 and stock stroke (388) or 4" stroke (427). Although, Thompson will prob steer you to 388 as that combo seems to just work better. The 4.125 bore will better unshroud the valves. Uses all stock covers etc etc... weight should be about the same.

We’re talking about shp. Not LS next shp, right?

What about fitment, covers, heads. Is it 6 bolt?
