PICS: Goodyear F1 3R's installed on Z/28

Took a few pics for anyone considering getting GY 3R's. I stayed with the stock size 305/30/19 - seems like GY's are slightly wider than Trofeos.

I am currently running a set of them for track days. The wear and performance have been good. They are about 3 pounds heavier per tire than the Trofeos but seemed a little bit more predictable and considering they are significantly cheaper than the Trofeos I am not going to complain. I am also running the stock tire size.

Excellent. I really don't feel the weight so far as I had the Porsche spec Trofeos - prior to the 3R install - which weighed 28lbs/tire and were a lot beefier than the factory Z/28 Trofeos that weighed 26lbs/tire. 3R's are 29lbs/tire.

That’s what I switched to also and the biggest difference I’ve noticed is a lot less tramlining with the 3Rs on normal roads than the stock Trofeos. I haven’t tracked at all so I can’t comment on that.

Tires look less squared/rounder than the trofeos. Let us know your thoughts on these.

Also do I spot the carbon wheels of a gt350r?

Yes, slightly less square. No other tire - that I’m aware of - compares to the square look of the Trofeos. However, at $525/Trofeo tire compared to $325/GY tire, the GY’s are a better bargain - considering the GY’s have equal or better performance than Trofeos.

Yes, GT350R sleeps next to Z/28.

Yes, the 3R are wider, cheaper, quieter, less tram-lining. Maybe not as good in the wet as Trofeos. All said, it's a great/perfect tire for the Z.

Does anyone know how much the Toyo R888R in our Z28 spec weighs?

Tire Rack lists the weight at 31lbs for the Toyo 888R in 305/30/19.

Scott,

Would you say the performance is better, worse or on a par with the Trofeos for track? (not taking into account price; although I realize it's a major factor)

I had planned on trying a set, but then got plugged into a bunch of Pirelli slicks and well, you know how that goes. I suspect 2020 I'll get to try the 3Rs.

I believe they are at least on par. They were developed for the Gen 6 Camaro Zl1 1LE which is similar in weight to the Z/28. To me they seem to warm up quicker than the Trofeo. Goodyear lists a higher treadwear rating (100 AA A) for them than the Trofeo lists for the 305 tire, but since treadwear ratings are developed by each manufacturer in lieu of an independent testing agency to ensure uniformity I can’t say they are a harder tire that has less grip. Nothing is going to outperform a true slick made from one single compound. There is pretty much no tire squeal coming from them, but I think I can hear the grip of the tire more on the track surface which gives me additional feedback for pushing their limits which I could never discern with the Trofeo.

Here are some other threads about the GY F1 SC 3R

For what it is worth, if anything, here is a Sunday drive of mine at COTA last month with the 3R, 305 30R19 all 4 corners.

Thanks... like I said I am looking forward to giving them a try. I sure like the price!
