Shoulda, coulda, woulda

Completely non-Camaro topic, but I've noticed an increasing trend of people misusing past participles in a weird way. They say "should have went" and "would have did" and I can't help but cringe... what is this, a new hipster trend I've missed? Or a failure of basic modern day English language education?

The thing is, it isn't just teenagers, I see it across the entire gamut, from teens to baby boomers.

Do you guys know where this is coming from? Full disclosure, my native language is not English, so I might be missing a sign of the times or some cultural background theme here.

It's a sign of the dumbing down of the American people.

I probably make that mistake... But I have an excuse, English is not my mother language.

I should have went to school a little more to learn it probably. Maybe I should have did my homework too, it would have helped.

(I did the above on purpose by the way).

"Would have did" even to me sounds wrong. But "should have went" doesn't feel weird. For my personal education, what would be the proper way to say it? And could you please put it in context?

And by the way, it is the same in French. People are getting worse and worse when they write it. It sucks cause french is a very nice language, but it will kind of die off at some point since we are all surrounded by English in north america.

I will chime in, because I have noticed the usage of "should have went". The proper word is "gone", as in "I should have gone to school a little more..."

Camaro drivers are among the most sophisticated when it comes to grammar, politeness and high culture after all.

Oh, it isn't just this forum, I picked up on this trend elsewhere, then I've begun seeing it here as well. Still mostly online, though, which is a definite hint... Yeah, I know this isn't the point and of course I won't poop into anyone's thread with mere grammar corrections.

I grew up in an age when the written word was, if not sacred, but at least more scrutinized and had to meet much higher expectations. Oh well. Guess it's time to run out and send those pesky kids off my lawn.

I say it wrong too and never knew. No way I can correct it now. It comes down to teachers being pressed for time to teach things in the classroom and their curriculum. I don't remember ever being taught these things and I have had some pretty good English teachers.
(How bad was this?)

Irregardless, since the advent of the electronic keyboard forms of communication, communication skills have gone downhill.

is this a statement or a question. See, it's this type of punctuation that is confusing. I understood the rest of it.

You see this transition to improper spelling and sentence structure because of everyone abbreviating on social media more and more. They do it a couple times and before they know it, it is second nature. LMAO, OMG, IMMA, etc., etc. Then when they try to type sentences out, they are totally lost again.

These posts contain many grammatical and punctuation errors that would be considered highly cringeworthy to the trained eye. Perhaps you should further educate yourself on basic modern day English before making corrections on others.
