2014 Rear View Mirror Wiring

Anyone know what voltage the rear view mirror runs on (I assume 12v)? And does anyone have a wiring diagram for it (2014 1LE is what I'm running if it matters).

In case anyone cares, I'm trying to splice in a 12v to 5v step-down/switching regulator and run my dash cam off of it.

I'll be adding my mirror tap on Friday, I'll let you know. By the way what dash cam are you using? I have the Blackvue.

Unless I'm mistaken, it's always hot (ie: does not shut off with the key), that's why the mirror taps don't work (for radar detectors) on 13+ models.

The work around, as noted by a few members here, is to tap into a feed up by the dome light.

No wiring diagram? Any tips on removing the plastic housing at least?

Don't trip I got you. I have to run some errands right now, but I will be doing my install. I'll post pics on how to and give you the voltage on the connection for the mirror and dome light.

On my 2014, when I went to install my mirror tap for my radar detector, Instead of the mirror, I used the passenger airbag light as my source.

This is covered a few times in a couple of the radar detector mounting topics (search 9500ix or Valentine). Such as this one: http://www.camaro5.com/forums/showth...ghlight=9500ix

Sorry, for the late response. Sorry, I wasn't able to tackle my install sooner. I'll post some info and pics tonight. Yeah, my poor puppy ate something off the ground after we had sprayed some pest poison. He's doing much better. Thanks.

Just finished! I had to use my iPhone as a lamp, as I forgot my head lamp in Mexico. I didn't have time to do this during the day as I work the late shift. I will be posting pictures and tutorial tomorrow. I'm beat. It wasn't difficult just frustrating. I used the mirror tap and a blendmount for my Escort Passport 8500 X50.

Cool MIRROR TAP INSTALL 12V OVERHEAD CONSOLE

Ok, so I was unable to get a switched voltage reading from the mirror harness. Instead I used the wiring harness from the "Passenger Air Bag" light. I found a black - ground cable and a red + 12V cable.

I used the mirror tap connector that came with a fuse spliced in series. First I removed the light cover, then the light bezel, then the trim around the switch selector and selector itself. Then, the hardest part to figure out, the light housing. It has these small pins that have to be pushed in, in order to get the housing to drop down. Once that's out of the way, you will need to remove 2 Philips screws that hold in place the actual overhead bezel. After that, simply pull down and the bezel should hang, held on by the multiple harnesses connected.

I used a trim removal tool to allow for the RJ11 connector to slide through. Look at the pictures below and see where I plugged in my cables. Put everything together by following the steps in revese. Now my radar detector comes on every time I turn the car on.
