Pop up Nav screen possible?

So I was watching the commercial with the hot gal in the Cadillac CTS and thinking that pop up navigation looks sweet. I'd love to have that on the Camaro, bring some hi-tech feel to the interior.

I know I read one of the posts that some think the stock navigation systems are way over priced versus buying a Tom Tom or other brand at a Best Buy. If it was a pop up screen, would that be sway you to get that option than a screen sticking out of the dashboard? Any one have any opinions?

I'd prefer no popup. Cool factor is way up but that is just another mechanical piece that can fail. I plan to routinely grab gears which will make it more likely that it will break.

Yup, just more complication and still way overpriced. I'll still go with a portable unit. Also, Chevy seems to be focusing on On-Star's turn by turn navigation option rather than a traditional nav screen setup, so I wouldn't expect a traditional nav system in the Camaro.

I just got a portable unit for x-mas. It's great and you can plug it into your computer to update it with things. No monthly service fee and no 900 page manual like my mother's head unit touch screen gps/nav.

Seriously? That sounds pretty nice. What brand/model was it? I've been looking for one, but I don't like paying monthly fees.

Garmin Nuvi 650. literally, I took it out of the box, plugged it in and learned the system without the 3 page pamphlet they provide.

the Tom Tom 720 is the same way... if you can read English, you can make a Tom Tom work for you.

I'd prefer there to be no nav option... the only possible benefit of it having a nav option would be that you could use it as a DVD player like the ones in the Suburbans and SUVs... other than that, I'd rather get a Tom Tom or just go without... I'd much rather see a Bluetooth connectivity option and then just use the cell phone to call whoever or wherever it is that I'm going.

All I need is an mp3 line in jack and some decent powered speakers.

Same for the Garmin Nuvi 350 if someone wants to spend a little less than the 650 (other than the screen size I don't think there's much difference between the 350 and 650. But I haven't researched it.)

LOL. Well... I'm lazy.

I heard great things about the Garmin and Tom Tom, I guess I can live without the Navigation stock unit in my Camaro. I keep forgotting about the OnStar! Ok, think you guys got me ok without the pop up Navigation.

I'd like to see the pop-up Nav as an option. It's a much cleaner look than having a portable unit mounted on the windshield or dash somewhere. I also think that the Onstar feature is a great option, but I really like being able to look at a decent sized map screen.

Wasn't meant as a critique on you, it's just that I personally have never had a use for GPS and wish to keep the interior of the Camaro clean.

But who knows, I might change my mind in a few years and get a Garmin unit. Doesn't have to be mounted on the dash to work though, right? Or perhaps if the GPS is a pop-up and isn't that expensive I might get it. Already planning on getting a HUD if offered for decent money so my "I want it totally retro" argument is crumbling.

A pop up unit would be cool. But, the only way I'd get it is if it came w/ a hell of a lot more uses than just a map. It'd have to be a DVD player, control a lot of other functions, mp3 player, bluetooth screen for songs when you put in an SD card, etc.
