4 gens are money eaters. Been there and done that, over time they'll make the problems with your current Camaro look like nothing, especially when you start replacing parts for 2nd & 3rd times over.

Know the feeling all too well . Nothing about these cars are great. Rattle trap interiors even worse with ttop & hatch leaks. Definately not the easiest to work on with the motor tucked in 3/4 of the way under the mile long dashboard.

I had two 4th gens and loved them. However, they are harder to work on and not nearly as solid feeling. If you ever installed a set of LT headers on a 4th gen. Try it on a 5th gen and you will be amazed at how much faster and easier it is.

I like my 01 ws6 better than my 2010. I'm not sure why. Just seems to be more fun when i drive it.

Isn't that the case with pretty much all 2nd-4th gen F body cars.

This 5th gen car I can see them getting real rattly too with age. Nothing in the interior is held on by screws most of it is like a snap together model.

As many of you know, I have been looking to trade in my camaro for quite some time. I've weighed the options, and found a great deal on a few 4th gen camaros. I drove my camaro today, and remembered many things I loved about the 4th gen I used to have. I really want to find one, or a trans am WS6, and I have many...many options. The main reason I want to is the cost. The new SS is just way too expensive. I pay almost 500 a month, and I rarely drive it. When I do, I love it, but this car feels like there is something missing. With all of the issues I've had with it, I think everytime I make a payment "Jeeze. Another four years?" I don't think my car is worth 500 a month for the next four years.

I found a few 4th gens with mileage close to what I have on the 5th gen. I have seen them for as low as 10 grand. LOL. That's just ridiculous. For a car that slaps up the same quarter times as our new SS line, that just seems to be the better choice. The aftermarket support is not RIDICULOUSLY priced as the 5th gen is. 500 buck intakes? Do I drive an SS, or a GTR? They are the same price as Nismo intakes for a 370Z...and you get two intakes on the 370.

I could save 150 a month, finance a 4th gen for 24 months, and own a camaro in 2 years. I could also have a t bar, which, jeebus, I've always loved. No warranty, but the warranty through GM is a joke. Allison transmissions are not Allison transmissions? Really? It's a lawsuit. Look it up. Not covering Z06 engines for valve issues? Really? Aftermarket means....GM aftermarket? That's another law suit.

I love the fact I get a Hurst tranny in the 4th, when the 5ths didn't get them for years. I love how the 4th has 100 less horses, but posts same 1/4 times. I love how people who put 30k in a new SS are running.....TENS and HIGH NINES....really? So, I want this to happen, and am looking for a reason why not to. That's what I'm asking. What is better on the new 5th gens that the 4ths really messed up on? I can't think of anything except mp3, heated seats, and back up assist. All things that weigh the 5th down way too much...and are pointless. They make Cadillacs with LS engines for people who want that.

I paid 26 something contract for my SS used. It's a 2SS/RS loaded. My brother just sold one off of his lot, a 1SS with 40k miles. Some retard PAID 30,299 for it. So, trade is no problem as down here, these things are sought after. Why? I guess the styling. Car and Driver put it best when they reviewed the fifth gen. The performance is what we expect. The braking and handling is what we expect. The only thing outside the norm is the styling. After seeing so many on the streets, the styling loses its appeal. Then, you are left with a vehicle that is just par.

Thoughts on 4th vs 5th? Keep in mind, I want to build it. Track it. I will not drive it daily.

Not really sure what to say. I mean if you don't want your 5th gen anymore then by all means go ahead and sell it, especially if you are saving money. I feel like you should have already known from the get-go what kind of car you were getting, how much it was going to cost you and the times posted, etc before you even bought the ride. For many of us out there this is our dream car, it certainly is mine. Yes the cost is not cheap, that is my biggest concern with the SS right now. I'm paying quite a bit on a monthly basis to own it. But I must say that on a daily basis I look at that car and say its own of the nicest things I have ever owned, and the countless amounts of compliments I have gotten on that car from family to strangers is staggering. Yes there are more Camaros on the road nowadays, but that is where you can make your ride unique. And besides, who really cares how many other Camaros are out there? Its nowhere near the same level as the Mustang, and unlike the Mustang, not all Camaros look the same.

Best of luck to you whichever route you go.

The 72s only rattles were in the package tray (loose speakers) otherwise very solid. As for my 2010 it has no rattles. Just a faint creak on cold mornings every once in a while. Pretty common as my zl1 did that even new. The 4th gen on the other hand sounds like a maraca. I remember when they were new they rattled.

If it comes to what you like best, then go with your intentions. Its just that IMO I have problems sacrificing a good car just to get another car that you do not know about. Far be it for me to knock the 4th gens, but you have a great set-up with the ls3; Thus if it were me I would try to keep both. Storage, insurance and payments...yea their tough to negotiate with.

What? Sorry but a 4th gen is a much better autox car. You cant hide all that extra weight and bulk.

It sounds like your desire to go back to a 4th gen is based mainly on economics. If you can't afford your current ride then, yes... you should dump it for something less expensive.

The OP may have what is called 'financial buyer remorse' which translates into fun factor ain't as fun anymore and the payment stays the same! I got rid of the Charger for financial reasons because I have other cars I own. If you look hard enough you'll find issues with any generation Fbody car. I got another 4th gen because I missed the ones I had when they first hit the streets and this one will never be a daily driver so long as I own it.

SSinister no harm in wanting a 4th gen. just find a good low mile one in good condition. Do what makes you feel good! 5th gens aren't falling off the earth if you change your mind.
