This is true. Look in you manuals, the oil volumes are completely different. SS's are bigger rears.

If you check the fine print of your broshures, you will see that Chevrolet in their infinite wisdom traded the LSD for remote start on V6 LS and LT models. One of the reasons I bought my 2LT /RS manual tranny is that I had read that it had the SS rear end (minus the gear ratio).

Uuuummmm, my 1LS has an LSD rear end.

M6 LLT & LFX are all LSD rears the same as the SS, just 3.27 ratio vs 3.27 or 3.45 on the V8.

The auto (A6) has the small open diff.

The A6 also has smaller diameter axles/splines and hubs for the smaller splines. and the rear portion of the driveshaft is as well.

I don't know if that's the reason (got a link to or a quote from that fine print?), but if true, it's only on the automatic.

I believe a few have swapped for SS diffs, but it involves not just the diff swap, but the rear axle and possibly drive shaft. It's involved.

We do them steady here. You need the entire rear diff, both hubs, both axles, and the rear portion of the V8 driveshaft. Then retune for the speedo to read accurate.

Save $$$ and get a LSD standard, get the manual!! :-)
I used the money to get a power sunroof. The porter at the dealer who detailed my car for delivery was puzzled? A manual, no RS, sunroof, but Boston stereo in a 1LT. Did you order this car? Why yes I did......
