Motor Trend Screws Up Again

I just got the newest Motor Trend issue in the mail, and it was their 2010-2011 Model Year new car guide. In the blurb for the Camaro:

Quote:
New Camaro is available in 3.6L V-6 RS and 6.2L V-8 SS.
Just when we get people around here to stop referring to the V6 models as RS, now Motor Trend is doing it. How hard is it for professional "journalists" to differentiate between a trim level and an option package available for most trim levels?

It's apparently too hard for them.
The guy writing that must have been a Mustang fan. Unless you know the car inside and out, it's an easy mistake.

Because GM should have just called the Camaro RS and SS. MT is just writing what makes sense. The whole 1LT, 2LT...blah, blah, blah is nonsense.

And call the RS package the "LT Package"? It's because the RS is a package that we can get something like a 2SS/RS. It has more of a ring to it than 2SS/LT
Even back in the day, the RS was just a cosmetic change with different taillights and hideaway headlights. I'm guessing GM wants to stick with tradition. Besides, it's not that bad. A little mistake at the most.
We should really be getting peeved at the people calling it the 2009 Camaro.

Usually, I call the V6 just a plain ol' RS.

I am looking at the issue now.
The base price range in the magazine claims 23,040-31,040

but doesn't the 2ss start at 34,225

My guess is that its the fact that the v6 models are the only ones that get the RS badging.

They also gave all three pony cars the same 3.5 star rating. Guess they're picking their battles and choosing to not alienate any of the three camps. Can't say I blame them.

How would that make sense? All Chevy cars now use the LS, LT, and SS monikers for trim names, modified by numbers, and the Camaro adheres to that perfectly. Anyone covering the auto industry at large should be familiar with that. It certainly is easier than Mercedes' Class naming system, or BMW's numeric trims. And if you just used RS for the V6 models, how would you differentiate between the three trims? 1 RS, 2 RS, and 3 RS? That's not really better at all. And what would you call the RS package? And SS models equipped with the RS package?

I'm grateful for MT. Not only is it an excellent magazine but they have been very favorable to the Camaro and GM in general lately. Recent articles have all given good/positive exposure for the Camaro, CTS, and now (most recent) the revised Equinox. This can only be a good thing for GM...and for Camaro enthusiasts.
