Has this car not "felt" fast to anyone else?

I may take some heat for this. I know the car is fast, real fast. And I'm still going to buy one because I love it! But when I drove it it just felt so much slower than my 99 SS did and I was pushing less hp in that car (except when I hit the Nitrous) than the new Camaro. I know it's faster than that car was but the 4th gen was just so raw and squirrely that I got such a different perception of speed.

The 6th gen is light years ahead of the 4th gen and I'm 100% fine with the perception not being there if it means not being in a rattle trap with broken plastic bits everywhere I'm just curious if anyone else drove one and thought "Hmm...I was expecting it to be faster" the first time they got on it.

This is in no way a knock on the new car. I actually prefer the way this one feels now that I'm a little older. I'm just curious if anyone else felt the same way.

Have you ever drove a 5th gen SS? The same was said about those cars compared to the 4th gen. The 5th gen was faster though...especially the LS3.

6th gen is much quicker still.

It feels that way due to so many factors, some of which being less rattles and the car is much more settled/planted, the outward visibility is reduced, which again, makes you feel like you may not be going as fast as you are.

No, I've never driven a 5th gen. My last frame of reference for a torquey V8 is the 4th gen.

Many times when a car feels fast, it is not . Many times the throw you back in the seat was onset of power after a flat spot in the torque curve. Smooth, flat torque curves pull very solid and smooth. My nova does not feel as fast with my 427 sbc than it did with the 355. But the butt dyno is wrong. The new motor is literally 2 seconds faster if it hooks. lol. I hope my description makes sense.

Also, look at the ricer crowds and their mods. Sounds louder, throws you back more... Slower on the track.

Many times it doesn't feel as fast because they are so smooth on the road. Many older ones felt fast due to the ruff ride. Then when you ride in a newer car they glide over the road and don't feel fast until you look at the speedo and blue lights behind you.

I get what you're saying, it's not just the Camaro - newer cars feel somewhat sterilized and isolated.

I had the opposite experience. Now granted it's been 5 years since I sold my 2002 z28 m6 but I had heavily modified it, ported/polished heads, big cam with 14* overlap, ported FAST intake, NW TB, 3.90 rear gear, and lots of supporting mods, tuned by Pat G. I have dynographs showing 465rwhp. That car felt very fast. But the first time I went to WOT in this new A8, I'd swear the acceleration felt identical, only this thing shifts way faster than I could in that 4th gen. I'm in love with this car

Though I haven't driven the new SS, I know what you mean. I was very disappointed when I bough my ZL1 because it felt so slow. It felt to me like a high 12 second car. Boy was I shocked when the car went 11.9 it's first trip to the track. My lt1 felt a whole lot faster because of the violence of the launch, but after that, there wasn't much upstairs. The new cars go about doing things so easy that it almost feels boring.

I've been in a 2016 convertible SS out at Milford, and the car felt damn fast. Then I drove a c7 Z06. That car felt, is, was, can't be mistaken for anything but, fast. Stupid fast.

I'm trying not to expect z06 levels of pucker factor. The fact that I am driving a bone stock 67 pick up that accelerates and handles like a glacier will help my perception of fast when my car gets delivered.

I have no idea. Nobody has driven my SS but me, and it hasn't been properly broke in yet. I'll tell you in about 500 miles.

drive with your windows all the way down, maybe the wind slapping your face will give you a sense of speed

The one I drove felt pretty good, but I couldn't put it though its paces when it wasn't broken in yet. I may be assuming it will have more charge up top based on the amount of torque available under 4K rpm. It took heads, cam, and long tube headers to get this much power in a 4th gen, not to mention a good tune.

I have a 630 hp 2014 ZL1 and a new 2SS automatic feels as fast as my manual trans ZL1.

My opinion, the car won't really feel fast until it's properly broken in.

Even though i cannot comment on the new Camaro, my frame of reference would be the Z51 Stingray. When i first bought it i didn't think it was as fast as my old 2009 LS3 vette i had traded for it. A year later and 6k miles, i know that is probably not the case, as it feels much stronger now and i can only attribute that to break in miles. I suspect it will be the same for the LT1 motor Camaro.
