Z/28 Grilles
Alright guys winters cabin fever has me thinking....Does it bother anyone else that the upper grille is gloss black with the x pattern and the lower grille is the textured black plastic with a whole different grill pattern?
I've kicked around the idea of trying to make a lower grille to match the pattern of the top grill would anyone be interested if this was produced? |

I would definitely be interested. It has continuously bothered me, especially when I'm cleaning for a meet or show and the lower plastic is faded thanks to the sun.

I’m all for it. A replacement GM lower grill is under $100. But having it actually match upper grill would be cool. The ikon 6th gen front bumper looks awesome on paper because it cleans up the front of the 5th gen, but in reality there are many issues. There are many lower grills out there and they all have missed the mark. Having said all of that. Would it be a full plastic molded insert or pieced together that one has to drill into the bumper to hold together? I don’t think anyone has come up with a quality answer and so I’ve left mine alone.

I reached out to ACS Composite as they make great products and use OEM factory cad prints to make OEM fit and finished parts.

It’s interesting when I had a 15 Cruze, gm matched upper/lower grills with the same diamond as upper z28 grill but could not do the same for Z28. I would imagine it have to be beefed up a bit but still match the diamond. How much and what was the min order to get them to do anything?

Well ACS isn't interested. On to finding another manufacture
"Hi Nate, Thanks for considering us! While this sounds like a great idea unfortunately our development is currently pulling all nighters working on our C8 product line. Not something we would be able to put together or consider for the near future. Good luck in your search!" |

Count me out. I think as the years go by you will have a decreasing demand for this kind of MOD as the value for unmodified cars increases. Kinda like adjusting the smile on the Mona Lisa. It's a good idea, maybe also increase airflow for cooling. Now that I think about it you could probably market it towards the track guys. Down here these cars run a little "warm" towards the end of 20 min sessions.

Personally think it is marketable past the z/28 cars as all 2014-2015 (except Zl1) have this same lower grille. I can see the SS guys that already have swapped in the upper grille for the flow tie would also want the lower grille.
I agree 100% on collectiblity and originality it is like any other part I would keep the original and in 50 yrs I'd switch it back if needed LOL To get it kick started it looks like we need to get a CAD drawing of the original grille and then have someone modify the drawing to what we want. Once we had that we could then go to some manufactures and see who is interested in building a prototype. |

Since you seem to be very passionate about this project you may what to pursue a patent for this item. I rolled the dice on a traffic safety item. Did not pan out but it only cost me $975 for a patent search. I went with Invent Help. If you don't patent a good idea someone else will and you'll be kicking yourself in the glutes.
