Consolidated Toyota Recall/Safety thread

I heard about this on the radio. Looks like the climb to #1 isn't going so well. Geee , that really breaks my heart! "Toyota....moving DOWNWARD".:sm0 http://www.bloomberg.com/apps/news?p...d=asaPimCFcocg

Is this the second recall? I remember hearing about this months ago. It could possibly be that toyota actually started recalls and were just talking about it months ago.

My girl owns a IS350. She's not too happy right now with Toyota.

It's actually quite a journey from realization (of a problem) to recall. Lots of legal and regulatory kicking and screaming along the way. Surely Toyota would have the public believe that they are above kicking and screaming...

The agency asked drivers to remove spare tires mounted underneath the body of Tundras until they bring the vehicles to a dealer.
It would appear as though toyota's solution to any problem is to remove offending objects.

Floor mat wedging against the accelerator? Take your floor mat out!

Spare tire coming loose? Remove your spare tire!

What's next toyota? Brakes aren't working? Remove your brake system!

That's funny, my friend had the small truck ,and toyota bought it back on a recall for the frame rusting. They gave him a new truck. Nice to see it carried over into the fullsize trucks.

Article said originally the "Gubment" was looking into the frame issue. Now its a full blown recall. Combined with the largest recall in Toyota's history last month, things are not so rosy for them. Too bad...

That would be an unrealistic expectation.

They might, however, ziptie the floormats in place.

Maybe they're going to fix the brakes by ziptying them.

They've been re-recalled. The same 3.8 million vehicles, and they're actually going to change the pedals to fix the problem.

OK Flame on here Is what I'm hearing a bit of envy that GM hasn't faired as well as the competition? what exactly is the issue. The US automakers have had plenty of recalls throughout their history. Last big one that comes to mind was the roll over issue with Ford SUVs and the tires that they where putting on them were prone to catastrophic failures. If I remember corectly... Hey, lets be honest here... they put together a good product If it wasn't so They would not be around the top of the pile... They hold there resale value blah blah blah... Fact remains American auto manufactures are playing catchup. Hope they can....

Still, I know 3 people that had 80s/90s Toyotas w/ 300k-400k miles on them. Never met anyone with a 300k GM product. Theyre way late to the quality game, but maybe GM and Ford (Chrysler is still lost) figured it out before its too late. I know its cool for big hairy American men to bash Toyota, but theres a reason people flocked to them and not to GM in the past.
