First Camaro question

Hi Gang,

1. If you were buying your first Camaro, and had 34k total to spend, what would you get? (Gen 5 style only)

2. Any leads?

3. Has anyone seen at their local dealer a good deal on a Red Jewel Tincoat convertible or an all Black in automatic? They are impossible to find in South Carolina. I don't care if it's a 2lt RS or a 1 or 2SS.

Thanks in advance.
Charles

Hello and welcome. There are several members that have started out with a V6 and later moved up to a V8. I am not a V6 hater I really like all of them. However, I would suggest you look at V8. If the rumble of the exhaust is not a concern then get a V6. If they ae hard to locate in yor area check online. You can make a road trip out of it when you buy it out of state. Good luck.

Brand new 1SS FTW, unless you care much about MPG than V8 sound/performance. Or a nice used 12' could be a good idea.

If you honestly dont care about the engine, then go for a decked out V6 convertible if thats what you want.

New 2SS is out of your price range. New 1SS with any options is also out of your price range. Any new V8 vert is out, and possibly any used one with low mileage.

So go for V6, you should have tons to choose from.

Red Jewel was only 2010-2011, Crystal Red is 2012-2013.

Crystal red is a little lighter, check my build thread. There were only a few CRT cars made in 2012, so most CRT cars you see are 2013. Anything else is RJT.

Black is THE most common color for 5th gens.

Depending on your state tax, you may be able to get a brand new 1SS with no options. But personally, the RS package makes the car.

Thanks everyone. I'm really torn between waiting and getting a 43k HW edition 2LT with Nav as it will have everything I want, OR jumping into a much less expensive 2011 2lt RS black with 7k miles for 27k

If I wait for a little bit, I'll have the diff for the HW edition. Sold my Tbird, awaiting payment. I just wish I was more patient. lol.

EDIT, USAA offers a major discount at one of the places with used cars, so I'm going for the fully loaded 2lt, and I'll upgrade if warranted.
EDIT AGAIN: The origionial dealership in question won't take the discount, so back in the market.

Btw I'm a tech guy over a motor guy.

Thanks all.

Are you a tech guy or a motor guy? I traded in a 2012 charger loaded v6 for a 2SS because i missed the V8, i've always been a motor guy at heart and can't stay away for too long....7 years lol!

You may be able to get a chill deal on a 13' sitting on the lot. If money isn't an issue I vote V8.
