IIRC wasn't the Cobalt SS the fastest FWD car around several tracks at the time it was built?

I think it set a Nurburgring record at one point?

Hence why I said "during that time period."

I know, I was just looking for a pretext to share this beauty without leaving the topic

At a local autocross event at what the time was Miller Motorsports Campus ( a world class track) I saw a Cobalt SS (turbo) really ripping it around the track. I hadn't given them much though until then. I've driven a few and they were peppy, but not necessarily a rocket. I was more impressed with the SRT4 as far as straight line acceleration, but the SS was quite the corner carver.

Yes, fastest FWD. At 8:22 it was only 2 seconds slower around the ring than GM's time for the 5th gen Camaro SS.

Because that’s a Chevelle, not a Malibu.

You do see that script “Malibu” nameplate on the rear fender, right?

Wasn't Malibu a trim level of Chevelle?

That maybe true but I would bet the 2006 Malibu SS V6 was much faster than the 1965 Malibu SS inline 6 was in its day and I would also say it was a better straight line performer in its day among its peers. Neither car will be high on anyones collector car registry list.

Yes, I’m well aware. Malibu was a trim level on the Chevelle. Calling Chevelles “Malibu” would be like calling Camaros “SS”.

This is true. GM does that a lot though. Trims of popular vehicles become their own model.

They had to have the Chevelle name first....A "C" was required as the first letter of each model line's name...(At least for quite a while, that is...)

Well sure, but that's just progress and technological advancement. I mean the 2.7T Tripower 4-cylinder going into the new trucks makes almost as much power as the old Tripower V8 engines in Pontiacs long ago.
