Not another cam question...
Before I pull the trigger on a cam.. I need some valued opinions from the experts... I'm indecisive on which bump stick I wanna run... I've done the research on cams and what not. I hear NF makes big power but drivability is an issue.. The BTR stage 2 makes good low end and mid-range. Haven't heard to much about the LG G6x3.. I really don't drive to much in the upper RPMs unless duty calls. I can sacrifice the low end due to have a 1LE and the gearing to keep it drivable at low end. I've read the horror stories about comp cam based grinds. Does anyone know if the BTR is a CC grind or the G6x3 is one as well. I know NF is a cam motion grind. All opinions wanted. TIA

Actually, our final drive ratios are only taller in 1st and 4th. We a shorter(read, less bottom end final drive torque) in 2nd and 3rd and nearly identical in the overdrives.
So you really don't want to sacrifice too much low end at the crank. All the cams you mentioned are pretty much top end, seat-of-the-pants cams, except maybe the BTR stage 2 cam It might be better for overall driveability and plenty of pick-up in the midrange and up top. I haven't talked to Brian personally, but I have only heard good things about him and he can surely fix you up. Also talk to Kip at cam motion. I prefer cam motion cores personally. You can also spec your own cam. Lots of options here. You really just have to read up. Also, if you plan to have someone else do the work, they will likely be able to give you ideas. I almost went with a TSP 235/239 but, like you, wanted a little more bottom end grunt, So Pat G spec'd me a cam for my exact setup and and overall desires and came up wit a slightly taller intake but over a shorter duration and a slightly shorter exhaust but over a longer duration, as well as 2 degrees of cam advance. This should give me more grunt in the lower(like 2800-4,000 range) without completely laying over up top. Cam for cam, the tsp would probably win slightly in peak hp and in the 1/4 mile, but from a roll or on a twisty track, my custom cam may have an advantage. We'll find out soon enough! Cam gets here tomorrow, heads in a week or so(hopefully), and all other parts have been trickling in since yesterday...

For what it's worth, a coworker of mine has a '12 LS3 Camaro that just so happened to have a Nightfury in it. I was interested to see what the drivability was so, he brought the car in for me to take around the block and get a feel for it. Having owned a cammed car in the past, I know how unruly these things can get so, this was good insight. I drove the car on base so the speed limit is awfully low but, not once did the car buck, show any signs of hesitation or anything else that would take away from the driving experience. Mind you, he had the cam installed and tuned by Lethal themselves.

True, I have never heard of drivability being an 'issue' with the majority of more popular 'off-the-shelf' cams, even the more aggressive ones. Maybe not as much fun in a parking lot or stop and go traffic, but that's just a very small trade-off for the fun factor of a cammed car...

I challenge your claim of drivability issues with the Night Fury cam as untrue, if tuned properly it will drive normal.

With 3.91's you shouldnt have an issue. My pat g cam specs are kinda close to NF but more overlap and I have a 112LSA and not 113 like nightfury. My car is my daily driver and I have no complaints on drivability with 3.91's

I have the NF in an auto, and have bucking in 5th-6th below 2k rpm. It can be aggravating, but not awful. Granted, it may be diff in a manual car, or a car with a diff stall than me.

there is a lot in the drivability to the LSA of the cam, the tighter the more higher you need to take off in gear in RPMs and the higher the idle.... Anyway there a good article in the differences LSA make by comp cam as far as broadening the power band, vacuum etc etc loss of h.p...... You can get grind of whatever spec you want by cam motion, the thing is most do not show the NF's spec which is like .616 lift etc and fairly good duration to help its LSA which can be adjusted, the G6x is very tight PTV clearance..... And cam motion makes cams with various cores. I have not heard comp trashing lately, yet know people will blame what ever and not do a break in on the cam, or use good oil.....
I know my TSP .235/.239 speced out more than the nightfury and it liked it above 1400 rpm as its tight 112 LSA was not the most street friendly but made good power on the dyno.....
