Exhaust Volume
I have 2015 SS and I hate that my car is quiet. However, my wife loves it. Before we get into the whole, leave my wife home business, I was wondering if anyone has come across an exhaust system that is quiet while you are cruising with the top down but nasty when you get on it. I put a Cold Air Induction on and that helped the note a little. I thought of exhust cut outs, so if anyone has done that, I would like to hear how that turned out as well.

Are you thinking a catback or axleback? Are you open to adding LT headers?

I installed a flow-master axle back with flow-master outlaw mufflers. It is as you described in your post when you step on it you hear it and when you are cruising not so much. (I too have a CAI). I looked into installing cut outs but being it is a convertible we have a lot of bracing under the car. My mechanic and I were under the car trying to find a spot to install them but because of the bracing there was no where to install them. (With out modification that is). Plus the car is still under warranty and with all the horror stories that I have read of claims being denied because of mods I decided to return the cutouts and do the axle back.

Factory NPP exhaust has flaps on it that are closed until you jump on it then they open. That's what mine has. Of course, I pulled the fuse so it's loud all the time now!!!

Before I installed long tubes I was running solo hiflow cats and their Mach XL cat back. No drone, reasonable when cruising, deep and loud at WOT. I liked the setup, wife loved it. Mine is a coupe so not sure about sound with top down.

We have the NPP exhaust and you can find them for sale here every once and a while. I pull the fuse a few times a year than the cutouts are open. It's nice when were on the road to Camarofest to have then closed at 70 MPH.

Cut-out are nice... I removed the mufflers so I get a nice rumble in idle and so nice tone when driving around. My exhaust is stock otherwise... I'm also automatic so I use a RANGE to stop the AFM. If you get cut-outs, then you could leave your exhaust system entirely alone with that mod.

I have LT headers, hi flow cats, resonator deleted X pipe and Borla ATAK axle backs. It has a great tone while cruising, good rumble while excelerating, and it’s absolutely ridiculous when you hammer it. I love hearing that cold start up also!

Just take care of two issues at once sound and power
https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=OwMr7ShiF-c But i do agree with the npp exhaust comment, it would be a good option for keeping both of you happy

I’m running solo Mach XL with CAI, the sound is nice and deep. No issues cruising with my wife, we can have a conversation.
At WOT the exhaust sounds great, in the spring I’ll install some Kooks headers, hoping it doesn’t become to loud |

My wife didn’t want it to loud so I bought the Solo Mack xl cat back. It was to quiet so I added long tube headers and high flow cats. I LOVE it now! Deep and mellow cruising around but loud on hard acceleration. Even the wife likes the sound.
