Interesting to see this thread pop up. I have kept all my keys on one ring ever since my first car in 1985.
But just last week I changed that habit, and began keeping the ignition key separate. I was having trouble starting my car, and the symptoms seem to be narrowing down to PassLock or the ignition switch. Separating the car key has not eliminated the problem ... but I became suspicious of what the weight of several keys might have done to the tumbler after a decade of driving. Figure I should tilt the odds away from any further wear. The dealership would charge about $500 to replace the switch. Maybe an independent shop would be cheaper, but am hoping I won't need to take this action at all. |

I've always had separate rings. Especially since I have multiple vehicles. I really can't stand when I drive someone else's car and they have a giant mess of keys on their ring (usually a women) to the point where they swing around and smack me in the knee.

both on the same ring but with a quick release. I don't like the house keys swinging
back and forth on my leg when i'm driving, makes me horny, so I release them and put them somewhere while driving. |

My most valuable things are all represented on my key ring. Camaro key, house key, gun safe key and my wedding ring. That's it. Half the time we don't lock the house anyway, but I know if I didn't carry the house key, someone would lock it up and I'd be stuck.

Camaro is on a ring of its own. I hate when the car keys hang and rattle, and they scratch the area by the ignition.

Keys can add up. The other keys I keep with me are:
The Remote fob My house PO box My parent's house 3 keys for my rental properties Office key Cubicle cabinet key One padlock key So yeah, when it gets ridiculous maybe it can affect the ignition switch over time. |

Wow, there are still places in America like this? I remember when I was a kid, everyone in the neighborhood left their door open, and the guy with the "Alarm System" signs in his yard was the "Cranky Old Goat". Times have changed considerably... but it is good to hear that some places like that still exist.

I only carry the car key.
House lock is electronic touch pad with an auxillary key incase battery goes dead . I don't have to worry about the kids loosing keys |
