When the manufacturers dyno their engines for their "official" factory numbers, are they ran with accessories such as the water & power steering pump, or are thay ran "bare".

If they run them without accesories, then when the engines are actually in the cars, the Mustang wouldn't be using power to run the stearing pump (electric) unlike the Camaro. This might be another reason the 5.0 seems closer to the LS3 in RWHP than what it should be.

If Ford & Chevy do run them with accesories when they rate them....well then, so much for that theory.

The 5.0 has not yet been "officially" SAE J1349 certified meaning it's rating is nothing more than a "educated" guess.

Update:

The heat / humidity is apparently killing the car. Same Cobra-owner driving as the other night made 4-5 passes last night and the best was a 13.8 @ 107.

I didn't think it was going to take so long to get a solid stock pass...

They are ran with all accessories and emissions. HP is at the flywheel, and is termed "Net" HP. Back in the 60's and early 70's, "Gross" HP was used, which was no accessories and usually a high-flowing exhaust. HP ratings were much higher back then as a result.

There is virtually nothing from the 60's or 70's that could touch either an LS3 or a new 5.0 in actual HP - certainly nothing that was mass-produced like these motors. That includes the 426 Hemi or 440 six-pack, LS6 454, Boss 429, etc.

But of the 100,000 or so 2011s that will be sold, I'm guessing less than 1000 of them will ever see a dragstrip. And the vast majority of even those will remain daily drivers. For the other 99.3% of all Mustang owners, that live axle is a detriment to their car 99% of the time compared to IRS on public roads and highways.

You mean you can't select it during the online "Build A Car" or you can't get Brembo's on an automatic Mustang period? I understand the stock brakes are more than sufficient for everyday use but surely a dealer could order and install the Brembo's for someone with an automatic transmission who really wanted them.

The technology does not translate into real world driving. I wouldn't call either car lacking in handling. However, it is clear that the GT outhandles the Camaro to a large degree in the twisties, and open road reviews are somewhat mixed, with either car feeling marginally better than the other depending on the reviewer.
