Ford announces its killing off all its cars; Mustang survives
https://www.detroitnews.com/story/bu...ings/34244867/
There’s been a lot of speculation between both GM and Ford on sedans getting the axe. This seems drastic; will be very interesting to see what GM decides to do with their portfolio

I guess Trump killing the CAFE requirements allows Ford to do that. Ford used to sell the Focus as a loss just for the CAFE mpg.
but i won't believe it till I see it... just because those "model" die don't mean they won't be replaced by other names or electric versions. I would think the Fusion sticks around as mid-size is always a good seller. 2/3rd's of the market is SUV's and trucks. Ford makes money on them and not so much on the cars. |

I posted on this in the off topic discussion last night. Hard to believe that cars outside of sports cars may be a thing of the past soon.

While drastic and surprising, it was easy to see this coming. Unfortunately.

You'll see this change pretty quickly when gas spikes again (and that's not an 'if')

see, that right there is what worries me. Camaro sales are going down and now I fear Chevy may dump several more models in favor of Soccer Utility Vehicles! Will the new electric Mustang make Chevy think that it is no longer viable to make the Camaro? Or are we seeing the effects of platform death in the industry?

You sell what people buy. Just like the new generation of kids who could care less about cars in general, driving autonomous vehicles, traditional cars are going out. Crossovers get close to the same mpg while offering AWD, more space, higher view of the road, and easier access.

When they replaced Gran Torino, LTD and Thunderbird with Taurus, Fusion and Focus they lost my attention. I'm sure they were working on Aires, Fission and Retina.

Fiat has quietly killed off Chrysler and Dodge cars.
All that's left of them is the now 12-year old 300/Charger

Highly cyclical business so they are taking a huge risk that gas won't be $4 a gallon again and the fickle consumer won't move away from SUV's and back to sedans.
