Chemical Guys Product Detailing... 1st go at detailing

Did the clay bar, Blacklight, Jet Seal, and 50/50 Wax

Used the torq machine with blue and red hex logic pads

First time detailing was lil nervous about using V36/38 and the Paint was in great shape 95% of it ... Didn't feel like chancing anything until I got some practice on some junk yard doors or hoods

It was the bigger one 22x I think ... Never used a machine polisher before so don't have anything to compare it to... Only thing I found myself doing was hitting the speed button accidentally at times Turing it off usually ...

Wish they would make a cordless one that runs off my rigid Li Ion batteries cord is a pain sometimes

Again first time ever using a machine ... Worked out well I think.

Washed the car other day and boy does the water run off that car now... So far so good with the wax

Your ZL1 looks great.

The 22 is a good machine from what I've seen about it. Long throw (21mm). I use a Rupes 21 which has the same throw.

The only drawback is that the smallest backing plate you can use, just like the Rupes, is a 5".

These machines don't produce enough heat on the surface, like a rotary polisher, to damage the clear coat. They also have very low vibration so you don't get tired hands using them.

The only issue is due to the wide throw, you need to be carful near trim, door handles,
and any tight area.

Your paint looks good in the pic's, although Blacklight is an excellent filler on darker colors, such as yours. It's quite possible the V36 (compound) wouldn't be needed, the V38 (finishing polish) may be all you need.

Practicing on a panel will give you the idea of the capabilities of your machine/compound-polish/pad combinations, and the type of defects each can remove.

However, the panel will likely have different clear coat than your ZL1.

Harder paints are easy to finish down (remove very light defects), but more difficult to correct light to moderate defects.

Soft paint is the opposite, it corrects easily, but is difficult to finish.

The best way to determine the hardness of your paint that I've found is to do one 2' x 2' section with your finishing polish (V38) and a light cutting pad, then check results.

If you don't remove any defects the paint is hard. Step up to V36 and your microfiber cutting pad. In some cases you may have to repeat to remove defects. Finish with V38 and light cutting pad.

If some defects are removed, use the V36 on your light cutting pad, finish with V38 on no cut pad, these are also used for sealant and wax applications.

If most all defects are removed, paint is soft, add water to your V38 to finish with no cut pad.
