Hope your ready for a good laugh...Toyota Tacoma vrs 2010 SS
Got a guy at work that is one complete idiot when it comes to cars. Is trying to tell me his Stock 2000 Toyota Tacoma 4x4 is so bad that he could hook up a chain and drag my stock SS around. He thinks because its a 4x4 V6 that its got an ungodly amount of torque and could just pull me anywhere he wanted. Thought id share the great laugh with everyone, hope you all enjoy.

When he puts in in low and if he has LSD both axles, he does have alot of low end grunt... Sorry to tell ya, he's probably right.

Ok ill bite, how in the hell with only 200ft lbs of torque at the engine. I understand if there was more torque no freaking contest. The torque multiplier of the gearing does make up for the lower numbers, but not that great. The damn thing only has 3.42 gearing.

Some things are more fun if you try it and see what happens
But use a strap, not a chain

How much is the bet? I want in!
... But seriously, don't try it. He would be pulling from frame rails, could rip your cradle out of the car.

Well lets just say he might have a good shot at it if he puts it in 4 wheel drive low. I'd sure love to see it. Just imagine how long your burnout could be with him pulling you backwards?

Also, 4 wheels pulling, at least 3, against two, with the low range of a transfer case, probably around 2:1, 2.5:1. I know Toyota 'cases were even lower, like 3:1, so he'd have an advantage. Just looked it up, his transfer case is 2.57:1 in low range, and I'm only finding a 4.10 axle ratio listed, in both auto and manual. Couple that with a first gear ratio of 2.84 in the auto, or 3.954 in the manual, and if his tires hook up, you go backwards! IMHO anyway, lol. Source of my info.

Well if my math is right - (3.35 final drive x 2.57 transfer ratio x 3.98 1st gear)=34.27:1 crawl ratio.
It probably wouldn't do his transmission any favors but he's probably right. |
