Understanding GM part listings

Hi guys, usually I'm able to find the information I need on here pretty readily, and I don't think I've ever posted a question before in 9 years of being on here(!), but recently I've been having a tough time finding information on the flex couplings used on the driveshaft for my 2010 2SS. Initially I thought the correct part looked to be 9228328, but when it came time to actually order it for some reason the online tools kept pointing me to 9228337. However, after having ordered and received two of them, they're too small. It makes sense after looking at the description online again, as it describes it as "COUPLING KIT,PROP SHF(105X30)" and the other which I think is probably correct lists "COUPLING KIT,PROP SHF(110X30)". I'm guessing the 110 is referencing a diameter measurement, though I haven't taken the caliper to it to see.

Now, when I go to the dealership or go to place an order at another GM site, everyone points me to 92249108. But, from the best I can tell, the difference here is that this includes the hardware to attach the coupler to the driveshaft, which I don't need because I have quite a few of them on-hand already.

The only other minor difference I see in the listings that may matter are that the first part, 92228328, says "For: ES 6-SPD MAN TRANS(M10) (2010-2011) (2010 - 2011)," whereas the second says, "COUPLING KIT, Propeller Shaft Pinion. For: EE,EF,ES 6-SPD M/TRANS(M10) (2010 - 2011)".

Does anyone know what the "EE, EF, and ES" means in these listings? That's the only thing that makes me question my observation that the only difference in the part numbers is that second, more expensive kit includes the fasteners I don't need.

Oh - and does anyone know what they mean with 'MYB', and 'MYC' in some of the part listings? That seems to be the only difference between the parts for the entire driveshaft assembly.

For a 2010 manual transmission SS, you would need GM part# 92249108 flange. Depending on your VIN you may also need a yoke part# 19257695 and flange part# 92249271 as GM changed the design through the 2010 build year.


MYC= 6l80 Auto
MYB= 6l50 Auto ( 6 cyl cars)
M10= 6 Speed tremec (SS)
MV5= AISN Trans (6 cyl manual)


EE=LS
EF=LT
ES=SS

OH and the 8337 you are getting is for 6 cyl auto car the MYB 6L50
also the 92228328 is for an auto SS with the 6l80,and the only way to get the couplers is the whole kit.

Thanks a bunch, that is helpful. I did figure out the couplers I ordered were too small for that driveshaft. I eventually spoke to a very helpful parts guy to understand I'm in the boat you described where I'll have to replace the yoke and flange that each end connects with because GM changed the couplers to be narrower. I guess that would help reduce the frequency folks are bending the bolts there, so it's a smart change.

I wound up reusing my couplers and installing new bolts and nuts. I think with the price to replace the parts it makes sense to just plan for an aftermarket driveshaft.

Just my experience - If you carefully replace the bolts and nuts with the current service replacements you might be fine. I have done a few early on with my 2010 SS and not had any repeat failures. Now at 80K miles. I am using the factory torque settings specific to where the fasteners are installed (varies depending on where the bolts are on the driveshaft assembly) using a beam type torque wrench and all new fasteners.

520 RWHP supercharged with 6 spd manual.

Older thread warning

I'm a bit unsure about what coupler I need
I have a 13 1LE (SS w/ manual trans)

GM says they only sell the couplers with the complete driveshaft. HOWEVER, you can order separately if you know the correct part number. My parts guy can't see what vehicle or driveshaft the couplers go on.
Before I saw this thread I ordered 92228337, and the coupler is too small. The info I've found so far is that 92228328 is for LS, LT and SS cars, but only the automatic transmissions.

It is for a coupler from an L99 car
the picture has GAC02-004 on the coupler, mine has the same number (see below)

Has anyone put 92228328 in a manual transmission SS?

The 92228328 coupling kit has the GAC02-004 Made In Germany Coupler, Bolts, Washers & Nuts that are correct for the 5th Gen manual SS and Z28 cars. Not the ZL1 cars.

First pic is damaged (112,000k miles) coupler and second is 92228328 kit with old coupler
