GM Strike

Anyone realize the strike that started Sept 16 involves the parts depots? That means the dealer who wants to fix my car can't get the part to do it thanks to the Union Strike.
What the hell did I do to them to deserve this? I bought GM cars all my life, so they said "hell, let's screw the people that bought our products!!!"
Meantime the Union brass are going to prison for $40 shots of Crown, $1000 tips at their steak dinners, and champagne all around.
This shit is about as ignorant as it can get. Send all the production to Mexico. They at least want to work..............
"Thanks for buying our cars and giving us jobs. Oh car won't run? Can't get a part? Too bad."
Like I can make GM pay you more...............they won't even give us, the customer the time of day.
Get over it and open the parts depots!! We DO NOT deserve to be treated like this.

It's screwing over a lot of customers, not just with parts, but there are people who were waiting on delivery of orders in September but just lost out on September incentives.

I have friends who are waiting on parts for warranty repairs and they're not pissed at GM, they're pissed at the UAW. At some point the union needs to realize they're creating more enemies than the new contract is worth.

Mary Barra got paid $21.87 million USD (2018)

Yeah, I feel their pain. I paid $68 an hour to get my $40,000 car built and now I can't get a $30 tensioner pulley.
Getting one from O Reilleys built in Korea.
Thanks UAW.

Even if you took her ENTIRE salary and gave it to all 50,000 workers on strike, that would be an extra $487 a year for each worker. They are asking for way more than that. Her job comes with a tremendous amount or responsibility and cannot be easily replaced. If she messes up it could lead to all GM workers loosing there jobs. Factory worker messes up there is a lot less collateral damage.

If we are going to talk about over paid individuals lets talk about professional athletes. I feel the factory worker's job is a lot more important that that athlete, even though most people don't think they have as much value.

Cause if you were CEO of one of the world's largest corporations responsible for keeping it profitable now and in the future and answering to shareholders you'd gladly work for free, right?

Come on.

And coming from the son of GM retiree, trust me, GM already takes really good care of the people who build the cars. Even my dad thinks the UAW is being ridiculous.

Totally agree. Her compensation is actually quite realistic for someone running a company with a *$46 BILLION dollar* market cap...! I’m sure GM holds a little blame in this mess too, but I suspect it’s UAW leadership, and not the average worker, that is primarily at fault. And if they don’t find a way to work together soon, they will do serious damage to their customer base. If my daily driver was a Tahoe or Yukon instead of my Sequoia, and I couldn’t drive it to work for an unknown amount of time because of strike-caused parts delays, I’d be pissed and I sure as heck wouldn’t buy another one. While I’m lucky that I don’t have to depend on the Camaro as a daily driver, I’d still be ticked if I had to wait weeks for it to get fixed over this nonsense...

Mary Barra's base pay is $2,100,000 a year all the rest $19,00,000+ is in extra bonuses and stock etc.

Sorry she has a hard time living on 2 million plus a year.

I think if a CEO gets almost 10 times their Salary extra bonus and stock, so should everybody in the company. Just my 2 cents.

Only because this country’s culture has shifted back to being business friendly. GM has temporary workers that been that way since 2011? Tough crap..... GM offering to keep some plants open? Employees should be grateful despite knowing GM made that move in preps for these negotiations. The attitude against the employees in this country has hit a new low.

Woa I missed this......so short term inconvenience trumps the wages and benefits workers depend upon? How about we be upset that employers are continually pushing workers down.

I've just been blessed that my customers with vehicles down waiting on parts have been understanding about the strike. In the past, I've had customers that wouldn't care, and would just be ready to take my head off.

The customers who bought the cars that supported these workers are now penalized BY THE workers they bought from and supported. (No repair parts) Strike if they want, hurt GM and the greedy dealer body, but "short term inconvenience" the hand that fed you? I'd suggest these customers say "go straight to hell" and go buy Honda's and Toyota's.

Is the UAW strike only with GM or does it impact other auto manufacturer's as well?
